Research, Extension & Education in Sustainable Agri-Food Systems
CV (download PDF) Photos | For over a decade, I've participated in the growing movement to create a more just and sustainable agri-food system. I've worn a number of hats along the way--consultant, trainer/educator, researcher, journalist, student, and organic farmer--while working to bridge the ecological and social rift between food production and consumption, farm and fork. Within geography, I straddle the social and environmental science divide, integrating agroecology with economic geography/political ecology. Through applied participatory research, teaching, and extension, I hope to serve as a translator between academic research and the public. I am currently a PhD Candidate in the Department of Geography at the University of California, Berkeley, as well as a Graduate Fellow at UC Berkeley's Institute for the Study of Social Change and a Switzer Environmental Fellow. My work lies in the following areas: Urban & Peri-Urban Agriculture / Local Food SystemsAgroecology (Nutrient Cycling & Soil Quality)Sustainable Agriculture Extension & EducationParticipatory Development |
