Frequently Asked Questions

When and where are your meetings?

We meet on Thursday mornings at 7:30am at the Starmount Country Club in Greensboro, North Carolina.  We start at 7:30am and are out by 8:30am.  Everything you would like to know about our meetings can be found here.

Is there a dress code for your meetings?

No.  Our members are very diverse and have a wide variety of careers.  We have bankers, attorneys, accountants, real estate professionals, insurance agents, endurance runners (yes, Charlie Engle is a member of our club), and stay-at-home mom and dads.  So, you will see everything.

Where can I get an application to join?

Here. (Under attachments)

What type of speakers do you get?

We have an EXCELLENT speaker program.  Our programs focus on sports, current events around Greensboro, politics, business, and the occasional social program.  More information about speakers and a tenantive calendar can be found here.  Howard Coble comes every year because he likes the breakfast.

Can women join the Nat Greene Kiwanis Club?

Absolutely!

Who are your members?

We have approximately 90 men and women members ranging in age from 22 to 65 years old.

Are you affiliated with Kiwanis International?

Yes, we are.  Although we are a Kiwanis Club, we are a bit more progressive and do things a little differently.  We pay our membership dues, raise money for children throughout Guilford County, and have a lot of fun.  That's about all we have in common with Kiwanis International.

What kind of service projects do you do?

Our major service project is Safety Town of Greensboro.  You can learn more about that here.

We also provide CASINO NIGHT "Deal-Out" services to other organizations for parties, corporate events, and other special occasions.  Groups pay us for our services and we eat and drink at their party.  Everyone wins.

Our other large function is the ACC Scholar Athlete Luncheon in April of every year.  Through sponsorships, we recoginize those scholar athletes that are part of the Atlantic Coast Conference.  Through our fundraising efforts, we generally raise $20,000 - $30,000 for our contributions and the Guilford Country Schools Enrichment Fund.  A list of our contributions can be found here.

Do you sing the Kiwanis songs at your meetings?

No.

What do you serve for breakfast at your meetings?

There are always eggs, grits, a wide assortment of fruits, and a wide variety of breakfast cereals.  The other items, such as bacon, sausage, biscuits, pancakes, french toast, waffles, etc. vary weekly.

Do you have pancake breakfasts to raise money?

No.

Do you sell peanuts to raise money?

No.

Do you have social events?

Absolutely!  We are a very social club.  We have an official "social" event every month.  Whether its a dine around, basketball game, Greensboro Grasshopper Game, etc., we have something for everyone.  We also have a lot of members with young families and children, so we try to make a lot of our events very family friendly.

Do you have networking events?

Yes.  We have a networking social every third tuesday of the month.  The location varies, but so far, we like R|E|F|S.  They have the coldest Red Oak in Greensboro, hands down.

Do you have an attendance policy?

No.  If you join the club and pay dues, we'd like for you to come to the meetings.  We aren't your guardians - so you can decide if you want to come or not.  We think you'll like the members, speakers, and breakfasts.

Are there dues?

Yes.  Dues are paid quarterly in the amount of $110.00.  These dues cover your Kiwanis International Dues, local club dues and breakfasts.  Dues are prorated if you start mid-quarter.

Is there an initiation fee?

Yes.  There is an initiation fee of $70.00.

Who do I make my dues and/or initiation fee payable to?

Checks are made payable to the Nat Greene Kiwanis Club.

I have an idea for a speaker?  Who do I ask?

Information on that can be found here.

I have a question - who can I e-mail?

Check out our contact list - you should be able to find someone to write there.
