Yoga for Backcare, Scoliosis
and all Vertebrates!
In this powerful workshop, you
will learn about the anatomy of the spine and its functional movement in asana.
Radiant Powerpoint presentations illuminate the underlying causes of back
dysfunction, degeneration and pain; your spine demystified.
If you have a spine, then this
workshop is for you! A particular application within this workshop is spinal
asymmetry - scoliosis, and the creation of spinal length and stability.
Engaging and integrating the
limbs through the body's centre creates potent change within the spine; the
legs and feet through the pelvis impacting the lumbar spine, the arms through
the shoulder girdle and lungs speaking to the thoracic spine and ribcage. Spinal
support from the organic body and movement initiation from developmental processes
richly inform this work in a layering process, evolving and authenticating the
asana from the inside out. Expect to come away with a rich palette of tools and
new insights, working from a deep knowledge and experience of the body's
architecture.
The creative and intelligent
use of props elicits spinal decompression, offering stability and balance. During Saturday's session we will focus on the lumbar
spine and sacrum. Sunday's session explores the thoracic spine and shoulder
girdle.
This workshop is open to anyone
with at least six months Yoga experience up to teacher level. The material is
of particular relevance to those working with, or supporting, students with backcare
issues or asymmetry. Please note that these sessions are not suitable for those
experiencing significant spinal pathology or acute injury.
