Evolving, researched and developed over a time of significant spinal injury during 2007, the Embodied Figure 8 is Narelle's signature work.

The Embodied Figure 8 
is a core integration continuum.
This felt and visualised spiralic arc deeply impacts effortless and easeful spinal alignment. It has the potential to heal spinal pathologic process. Embodying  a relationship with several developmental movement patterns, (eg Breath, Naval Radiation, head tail), the Figure 8  elicits deep spinal and sacroiliac stability, through a direct action of deep "core" muscles , the psoas, and fascial connections within the whole that is the lived vibration and form of the body.
The Figure 8 has a profound relationship with the ongoing expression of health within the human organism, and with the midline in Embryology; the fluid potential human in Choice and transformation.

  • Integral within these workshops, is Narelle's rich and deep Anatomical research into the arena of lumbo-pelvic stabilisation and the muscular, bony and ligamentous support of this region of the body. This anatomical information is illuminated in clear PowerPoints, via spinal models and through directly encountered experience. This rich  layering of information in eliciting spinal and sacral stability is applied to asana!

Finding Core Balance-stabilising the lumbar spine

Our spines began as a single C-shaped curve. As we raised our heads in interaction with the world, and later, as we came to standing, secondary curves evolved; the natural lordosis of both the cervical and the lumbar spine. These natural spinal curves distribute force. A balanced lumbar lordosis ensures optimal distribution of the body’s weight and provides dynamic shock absorption as we move. A fully functional, stable low spine sets the conditions for easeful, pain-free movement. And equally for ease, space and stability in asana.


A clear and  richly detailed PowerPoint presentation illuminates the contribution of deep postural muscles - the anatomy of core stabilsation, and the support of organic systems and developmental patterns, to lumbar spinal stability. This information is applied to asana, with a continual reference to, integration and application of, the FIgure of 8.

Participants can expect to come away with an embodied and functional understanding of the lumbar spine and exciting new tools to create lumbar stability.

This workshop is open to anyone with at least one years Yoga experience up to teacher level. The material is of particular relevance to those working with, or supporting, students with general low back pain.


The Keystone - engaging Sacroiliac Stability



The sacroiliac joint (SIJ) is a force transducer. It is the conversant, hub, or link, between the feet, legs, pelvis and spine.
Sacroiliac stability is born of both form and force closure; the intrinsic joint structure and the applied function of neighboring musculature. It is this dynamic and aligned conversation that offers SIJ stability!

We begin with another of Narelle's radiant anatomy PowerPoint presentations, and move into a felt, embodied application of this knowledge. You will learn how to practice asana in a way that offers the joint its natural capacity
to create a seamless link integrating the lower limbs into the spine for effective, efficient, and safe, force transference. Grace, ease, poise. Space with stability.
