your spine is a long curving river....

in scoliosis, and indeed in all spinal terrains,  it is important to sense the course of the river, the riverbanks, the surrounding country. To encounter the inflow of the tributaries of the limbs, and observe their impact on the course of the river-spine.

The first two weekends will focus on principles and on standing asana, exploring the use of modified  yoga ropes and  trestler, and looking to how we might facilitate proprioception, sensory balance,  and invite developmental movement re-patterning. Acknowledging the body's layers of organs, fluids, muscle-fascia-bone, we will investigate the ways the thoracic and lumbar spinal geography can be re-in-formed, offering new choices in functionality.  Narelle's Figure 8 and spiralic work will be introduced.

*The Training is open to yoga Teachers, Complimentary and Alternative Medicine Practitioners, and to yoga students with scoliosis or spinal asymmetry. The training offers information in learning how to practice yoga within a scoliotic terrain safely, with the intent  of enquiry, always searching a sense of both the integrated spine and functional symmetry.

IMPORTANT; please note that the study of yoga and scoliosis is a deep journey over many years. This training is offered as a sharing of part of this journey in my practice. My experience strongly suggests that one teaches from one's personal practice. In the end, that's all there is. If you have any questions, I encourage you to contact me, and ask!

A brochure type Document is available for Download below, with Fees, Venue and other information.

An APPLICATION form is also available for download below.
A Terms and Conditions document is available by request; do contact Narelle if you need one.

The Brisbane Training will include:
  • What is scoliosis?
  • What does the scientific research tell us about this physicality and its physiologic impact?
  • Spinal Anatomy and Pathology (with particular attention to disc and facet lesions)
  • relevant experiential anatomy and embodied ecology processes applied to asana
  • the exploration and application of developmental movement processes to scoliosis
  • the embodied Figure eight and its application in scoliosis
AND in particular:
  • yogasana, and specific prop employment (particularly working in the ropes and on the trestler) eliciting clarity of action and deep penetration of the spine, actioning the limbs in creating spinal change. A solid understanding of principles of movement in asana eg traction, stabilisation, breath work, working asymmetrically;
  • the capacity to look at the body in asymmetry, developing an understanding and a clear languaging of this terrain;
  • yogic philosophy within practice
NOTE: A research Assignment and a student Practicum is integral to completion of this Training.

Please note this training is NOT offered as a complete Yoga Teacher Training. It represents an opportunity for Yoga Teachers or other Practitioners to professionally develop their skills. It also represents an opportunity for students to dive deeper and learn more about practising in this terrain!

Vision; As Narelle is in the process of creating Yoga, Scoliosis and Backcare Centers,
she will be looking to employ graduates of this program.

Your Applications and  expressions of interest are invited

Please note that Narelle's practice centers around yoga as a spiritual practice of embodiment and consciousness.
Whilst yoga is undoubtedly a physical practice of often intense application, Narelle does not see yoga as "musculoskeletal therapy".

A sister Training/Professional Development is scheduled in Salzburg, Austria October 19-23.
