 Dance Improvisation sessions in

Experiential Anatomy and Embodied Dance

Equally applicable to YOGA!

Embodied Dance Improvisation;

Through processes of experiential anatomy and developmental movement patterns we expose the body as felt known experience, embodied inner terrain. We become present in the moment, resonant...

Experiential Anatomy provides an opportunity to

  • explore our internal landscapes

  • find personal contact with the functioning and intelligence of the body;

  • source movement and creativity from somatic impulses.

  • apply our experiences within our life, work and art.

Experiential Anatomy is applicable to: Yoga, dance, acting, singing, performance, improvisation, bodywork, visual arts practices, meditation, creation, life!

Explore: the fluid systems of the body, the anatomy of breathing, the curving river of the spine and pelvic basin, developmental movement patterns, the tissue blueprint, organic movement support, how the body reads space and gravity, and more.....

Exploring aspects of our physicality that inform and source movement

The Anatomy of Breathing. Patterns of the breath and its reverberation through the fabric of the body. Our tissue blueprint; cells and connective tissues

Flowing: the fluid systems of the body; how they source and support movement. Our internal waterways; the cardiovascular system.

Exploring the micro anatomy and function, the “mind”, of tissues of the muscular-skeletal system; geography of the bones, joints and muscles; and web of the connective tissue.

The Axis of Love; an embodied investigation into the curving river of the spine and pelvic basin; the tributaries of the limbs.

Inside the hologram: systems of communication and integration. Exploring the nervous system, including the vestibular and proprioceptive systems – how the body experiences space, gravity and balance. The relationship of sound and movement. Introducing the impact of frequency and resonance on our structure.

The organic body of expression; explore the  voluminous support of the lush fields of the organs- digestive and renal systems. Play with the impact of the endocrine system.

From the water to the land: Human Developmental Movement Patterns. Patterns of vibration, breath, naval radiation, pre-spinal; upper/lower (homologous movement),  body half (homolateral movement), cross connectivity and spirals.

Informed by Bartenieff Fundamentals, Laban Movement Analysis and Body-Mind Centering.

In each session we will explore the “mind” or quality of presence of an anatomical system through a combination of movement and dance improvisation processes that encourage you to attend to and explore the voice of that system. To further expand our growing awareness we will focus on themes that arise to generate small improvised movement works as well as perhaps employ the use of drawing, clay and writing to reflect on our experiences.

Come join with us in the prayerful, playful space..............
