Before and After
a short case study in images
The images below represent a very small part of a research Practicum I undertook within a post graduate teacher training in Yoga for Scoliosis facilitated by Elise Miller in the USA.
Students were required to attend a private session every 2-4 weeks, and commit to a home practice for half-hour minimum per day, over a three month period. Asana were explored and chosen according to the student's curve pattern and their experience.
It must be stressed that yoga is not simply another "musculo-skeletal therapy"; rather, it is a Practice in and of itself, whereby the practitioner/student, has the opportunity to engage with themselves on a deep intrinsic level. Awareness of the body's interior and the altered kinesthesia that a scoliotic landscape imposes, is illuminated and the real possibility of change invited.
In the images below, the "pink" photos are at the beginning of this process. the "white" photos were taken just 11 weeks after.
It is a process of wonder and grace. And hard work! I acknowledge Lee-Anne Tomkins for her dedication to her choice to move!
