Out with fellow detectorists yesterday, i decided to work in 20 metre strips along the hedgerow, going up, then back, then up again, before starting on the next section. A few hours later and several buckles and buttons to the good, i had just gone over the top of a ridge and decided it was lunchtime. I made a mark to show where i had reached and returned to the car. Soon after a colleague comes rushing down the field to announce to everyone that they had found a 6th/7th century Anglo Saxon sceat. Where was it, yep you guessed it, in the next 20 metre strip that i would have covered. Well done friend on such a good find! It's at times like this that you wished for an 'argos' sign to come out of the ground and point to its location!!. |
