  • Who will be the central point of contact for all civilian and military and prior personnel and their dependents to respond to medical questions related to exposures related to the SIC? This website is being provided in an effort to answer general questions health questions and concerns. Specific health concerns should be discussed with the primary health care provider. Questions about the health risk assessment can be directed to NMCPHC at: HRA_POC_Atsugi@NEHC.mar.med.navy.mil Physicians may consult with NMCPHC’s occupational and Environmental Medicine physicians regarding their patient's case.   • Did you know about the Occupational and Environmental Health  (OEH) Risk Assessment Process?   Occupational and environmental health hazards can seriously impact the mission and erode public confidence in the militarys ability to protect US personnel. These hazards include exposures to harmful levels of environmental contaminants such as toxic chemicals, radiation, or biological agents. Harmful levelsinclude high-level exposures that result in immediate health effects and significant impacts to mission capabilities. Health hazards may also include low-level exposures that could result in delayed or long-term health effects that would not ordinarily have a significant impact on the mission. Commanders must utilize OEH surveillance to identify these hazards, assess the potential risks, determine appropriate risk control measures, and communicate these risks to their forces via Operational Risk Management (ORM) processes

  • Has Naval Medicine notified the United States Veterans Affairs of NAF Atsugi’s toxic exposure to military personnel?  Yes, the Navy has presented the VA with the following White Paper in 2007 - this is it, as far as I know.
  • Were Atsugi residents offered off-base housing because of the incinerator?  Yes, in 2000, there was an initiative that contained five elements, which included that Japan provided temporary off-base housing, at no cost to U.S. personnel.
