By Brent Corr aka. Haleseen Start date: Friday, July 03 2009 End date: Saturday, July 04 2009 For MyRPG Alpha Version 0.2.4 This walk-through is very out-of-date and needs to be updated! Starting OutWorking your waySo you found your way on to this site, it is probably one of the best sites that I've been to in quite a while so you best enjoy it! Anyway, lets start off. You need to create an account. This is done by clicking the Sign-Up for Free Account Button at the top left of the website screen. After that, fill out your credentials like account name/password email, and you will immediately be able to log in, even without email verification (Just make sure that another account does not have your email adress or elso you will not be able to create your account). The communityWhen you log in you will see an influx of places to go. Wait! Let me show you around first. This page that you opened is the game lobby. This is where people talk to each other, make and apply for different games, or see if anything new has happened. There are many different people who are a part of this site. First off lets identify some: Nik, he is the website operator. He runs and updates the site. Haleseen, I am a helper. I make models and of course made this walkthrough. You, yes you are an important part of this site also. You are a part of the community which makes you awesome. The Live ChatNow lets talk about the Live Chat. This is the chat section of the game lobby. You can set up games and talk to your friends from this section of the website. It gives off a sound letting you know if someone is talking or is someone else has logged on, or logged off for that matter. The live chat will allow you to write up to 200 characters in one message. The GamesWhen looking at the games section of the website, there are a few things that you need to know. First off these are games that other people created, so you would need to play by their rules, if you don't well lets not go there. If you are new to the pen/paper RPG genre then you might have a lot to learn. But they can end up being really really fun. First off, pen/paper RPGs are games that use a standard set of rules (Creating them isn't really that hard) that allows the players to be immersed in a game that the Game Master (GM) made. These games can be pretty much anything you imagine, a quest through a magical realm, or maybe a post-apocalyptic game, maybe even a game that takes place in the future with robots and stuff. To join a game that someone else has made just click on the Apply to join button down on the public games tab on the website. When you apply to a game, it is always useful to read the description that the GM gives you when you click on the game (Click on the name of the game to do that) This will help you determine if this is the type of game that you would like to play. Or will help you to write out your application to the game that you are going to join. When you are accepted to a game, the GM might give you certian stats (some may of which be what you put in your application) or items. The GM will set you in a location also. There will be 4 tabs in the game that you can click on. The first being Game, this is the tab that tells you how the game is being played out. The second tab will say New Entry, this is where you will type in your actions, talk or do whatever you need to do in the current game that you are playing. The Third tab is Location, this tab will have 2 pictures up on it, this will tell you where you are located in the global atmosphere, and where you are in the local area. The Fourth tab is the Character tab, this is where you can see your inventory, stats, bio and everything about your character at that moment in time. Creating a gameCreating a game can be tough if you dont' know how to do it. (Well that's why there is a walk- through) First off, in the My games tab in the game lobby, there should be a button that says Create New Game. Click on it, you will then be in a new part of the site. Enter your game name in the box that says Game Name: You can change this later also. Now there is a box that says Game State: this is where you put the state of your game, for now click ont he arrow and click on the option suspended. This means that you either have not completed the game, or are away from working on the game. Next we will talk about the Game Backround section, This is the area that you will type in to show other players what your game is about and how it might work. When you are done, click the Submit button. We will talk about the other features in out next section. Rules of the GameParametersAhh, parameters. These are some of the most important parts of your game. You can change these in the Game Administration tab of the website. A parameter is a set of words, and a description. For example, one parameter might be: [Strength] [Your ability to do somthing] You will create as many types of parameters as you need to make your game functional. Just to note, there are two types of parameters, Toon parameters (character) and item parameters. Toon parameters are more important in MyRPG than item parameters for right now, this will change later. LocationsLocations, just like it says. These are locations or areas located within your game. When you make a location you must have a global map and a local map. It's nice to have a marking of the current area on the global map to complement your local map. Now the local map is what the location that you are in looks like, it could be sand dunes, a forest, or plains. You can add descriptions and things for that area also. To upload a map or an image to the website, use a file uploader like Image Shack to upload it to the web, then just copy the direct link that it gives you an paste it in the box that says either Location Global Map, or Location Image (local). ItemsWith items, click on the Item Tpye Editor tab. You will then see something called Search: This option is very helpful if you have alot of items and you need to find a specific one. The next thing on this page should be a button that says New Item Type, if you click on this it should come up with a new page. You can type in the item's name, parameter attributes, descriptions, even tag an image on it, and add tags to help you find it. For right now, Parameter attributes can only be numbers, so if you need special character or letters, just type it down in the description for other players to see. Setting up a GameGame SettingsGame settings, when you make a game. You want other people to play the way you want them to that's why you create special rules or parameters that are specific to your game. You can tell players what they can and cannot do. Editing Players StatsTo edit a players stats/parameters go to the Game tab and look at the player list. If anyone has applied you can accept them if you haven't already. When you look at the player list, you can click on the Edit button, it is to the right of User Info. When you click on it, you can adjust parameters by adding or subtracting units to them. Just remember, you are not setting the parameters, you are adding to them, and you will have to subtract from them as well (If you had a parameter of 6, then if you wanted it to be 7, you wouldn't type 7, because it would be adding 7 and the outcome would be 13, not 7. So you would have to only type in 1.) You can also change player's descriptions here also. Editing Players Inventory If you want to edit a players inventory, you can click on the Inventory text on the Game tab, it's right next to the Edit text. You are then brought to the inventory page, and must add items to the character by clicking the checkbox next to the items that you have created. You can also remove items the same way, but instead of adding, you click the Remove Items button. GM CommandsGame Masters control the flow of the game, they acknowledge actions, transfer characters, add items, etc. So you should know the commands. You can click the red X to delete messages on the Game tab, or click the pen and paper symbol to edit comments. You can also do transactions, in the Transactions tab. This means like trading items between players, or moving players to differnt locations. To transport players to new locations you need to have a character and a location. In selection 1 you need to click the arrow and select the character you want. In selection 2 you need to click the arrow and select the location you want. When you are ready, click the check box of the character you want and click the transfer button. This works the same way for different players trading but you would have to select the inventory items. Now it's time to talk about the game settings. The first one is "running" (you can find these on the Game Administration Tab), that means that the current game is in play. Another one is "waiting for players" that means that you are currently recruiting for the game that you are going to be the GM of. The next one is "Completed" this means that either the game is over, or is closed. No one can apply to join it if it is in that state. And "suspended" you should already know. It means that the game is currently on hold, and you are not there. I hope this guide helped you. Haleseen |
