All women joining Norway Lutheran Church (NLC) are automatically a member of Women of the ELCA (WELCA). You hear the name, read about it in the newsletter, but what exactly is WELCA? Special WELCA sponsored events are the Spring Brunch, Mother-Daughter Banquet, Salad Supper, Ingathering Service, Senior Christmas Luncheon, and also the following activities:

- Members prepare for communion, change paraments, and coordinate altar care including flowers for services and special holidays.
- Meets: 4th Thursday, 12:30 p.m. at church with Bible Study. Members do not need to attend the meetings to assist with altar care.

- Each month a book is chosen by a member and discussed at the meeting while enjoying a cup of coffee. Some meetings have special events to tie in with current book being read.
- Meets: 2nd Monday, 6:30 p.m. at church. (Day time book club could be started if enough interest.)

- Annual fundraiser that church members join together to help prepare food for serving over 900 settings. Workshops are held for making Norwegian desserts. Something for everyone to do.
- Dinners (3 different settings) are held 2nd Saturday in February.

- Members collect and assist putting together items for health kits, sewing kits, school kits and layettes. Patterns and yarn available for volunteers helping to knit layette sweaters.

- Bible study and monthly meeting with dessert.
- Group also coordinates the library activities.
- Meets: 3rd Saturday, 1:00 p.m. at members’ homes.
Quilters Contact: Donna Knurr at 262-534-3377 or dknur@tds.net
- Members prepare quilts for Lutheran World Relief. No sewing skills required. Experience tying knots is all that is needed to help tie quilts. Help is also needed sorting and cutting materials.
- Meets: 2nd, 3rd and 4th Tuesday at church from 8:30 a.m. – 1:30 p.m. with coffee break and bag lunch. Stay for as long as your schedule permits.

- An outreach ministry with members making cards for the homebound, military, confirmands, graduates, new members, etc. and special requests. New card making techniques are learned by the group.
- Meets: 2nd Tuesday, 9:00 – 11:00 a.m. at church.

- Each woman’s name is placed on a monthly service group list to assist at church functions or donate a dessert or other item for a funeral or special event. Each service group serves twice during the year when needed. The listing of monthly members who may be called for help is published in the church newsletter.
- An opportunity for women to bring projects they have wanted to work on—knitting, scrap booking, organizing photos, or recipes, etc.—or just reading a magazine and visiting with other women. This is a night of fellowship, coffee and dessert and getting to know others. There are some special outings or craft demonstrations during the year.
- Meets: 4th Monday, 6:30 – 9:00 p.m. at church. Members come when they can and leave when they have to—time is flexible.
World Day of Prayer
- A worldwide ecumenical movement of women of many faith traditions who come together to observe a common day of prayer. Each year a different country serves as the writer of the World Day of Prayer worship service.
- Meets: 1st Friday in March. Location rotates among churches in Western Racine County.

- The WELCA Board consists of elected women serving in Board positions and representatives from Altar Guild, Church Council, and Martha Clausen, and Quilters. The Board acts as liaison for information from Racine women’s cluster gatherings, Greater Milwaukee Synod meetings and church-wide activities for our women members at Norway Lutheran Church.
