Comments and Notes;

Aunt Sallie was my father's aunt. As a teenager, I was with my family when my father would go to her home in Ft. Worth to pay her a brief visit - a kind of recognition of her role as the matriarch of the family, even though she never had any children of her own.  I've seen several references in my research on her 7 brothers of their deep affection for her - she was, after all, their only sister and the eldest child and undoubtedly helped her mother in the care of the boys when she was young - a factor which may have delayed her marriage until she was almost 40.  Reading the dedication of her attempt at a memoir, examining her stories repeatedly, and studying her rudimentary family tree I've come to believe that she saw herself as the "glue" that held her scattered family together, and had a passionate desire that future generations would profit from her attempts to leave them a legacy of memories and facts.

While she was apparently known as "Sallie" all her life, I've always thought, since learning of her grandmother's name, that her given name was really "Sarah".  Only a birth or baptism certificate would be needed, or possibly her marriage license, to substantiate my belief.
