Purpose: To become familiar with the use of Word, Excel, and PowerPoint in the preparation of classroom materials, to be aware of resources -- such as templates, that increase productivity

Due Date: Tuesday, September 11 at the beginning of class.

Percent: 10%

Submittal: On your productivity tools webpage, you will include the following: a written reflection about your classroom layout, an image of your classroom layout, a written response to the questions listed below in the grading rubric, and a link to the 6 work samples listed in the grading rubric. Links to work samples should be embedded in the written response to the questions in the grading rubric - not simply listed at the bottome of your productivity tools webpage. You will need to bring a printed copy of your 6 work samples to class on Tuesday, September 11.

Details:  You need to create materials for Open House and the first few weeks of school. You will create a classroom layout, newsletter, and attendance/grade record. These will be done "from scratch" with guidance from class workshops. You will use online templates from the list below or of your own choosing to select and customize 4 additional work samples that could be used for your subject/grade level within the first month of school. Please see the rubric for details on what should be included with each completed template. You should NOT simply copy or print out an existing template without making substantial changes.

Please remember that you will be demonstrating your ability to find and use relevant online templates for classroom materials as well as demonstrating new skills in using Word, PowerPoint, and Excel. If the template you choose does not demonstrate this - please choose another template.

Reflection

What have you learned about designing a learning environment? What parts of that design might be time-consuming? How have online templates made the construction of your learning environment easier?  How did you search/find your templates? Why did you choose the ones you did? How might the use of these templates impact teaching and learning in your classroom? If using teacher templates is a LoTi level of One, what types of activities might students do with these tools that would be a LoTi level of Two or higher? Are there student-appropriate templates available? What are some template links that you will return to in the future?
