Using E-Scape with multiple players
BACK

Up to 16 people can perform on E-Scape at the same time. Each person has their own track, which they can conduct independently. You can’t use the keyboard or keyboard switch interfaces for this, as Windows ignores any keys that are pressed very quickly together. So you need to use MIDI-notes to act as switches.

You first need to tell E-Scape which MIDI note will conduct which track:  Open the ‘Conducting Set-up ‘menu (Ctrl- P), then select ‘MIDI settings for conducting’. Then select ‘Assign MIDI notes for all tracks’. You will then be prompted to play a note for each track in turn. These will be remembered in future, so you only need to do this once.

The MIDI notes can come from a MIDI keyboard or drum pad, or from switches connected into a ‘Switch to MIDI’ converter box.
The simplest and cheapest option is the Kenton ‘GPIM-

Kenton ‘GPIM-16’   Switch to MIDI converter boxYou can connect up to 16 switches, each of which will play a MIDI note. You can set the pitch, velocity and channel of each note if you want to, but with E-Scape you can just use the default settings – so there is nothing to set up on the box. It has a MIDI output, so you will also need a PC MIDI interface (available for as little as £14). As well as controlling E-Scape you could also use it with other MIDI instruments such as samplers or drum machines to trigger sounds.

It has two ‘D’ sockets on the back - each can be connected to up to 8 switches via a ‘GPIM 8x’ break out box.
