MORE NAMES

Hello Steve, another look has given me another name for your teacher list:

Pat Parkes, occasionally known rather uncharitably as "Potty Parkes", there in 1953. If memory is correct (not sure!) he was then deputy to Mr. Corlette although he was quite a young man.

You could add to your list of teachers:Mr.

Petts (mathematics). He was killed in a mountain-walk fall

in 1953.Mlle.

Joukowski (French). Also there in 1953.Best

regards, John Humbach.

Beanie!

Students who are no longer with us

Alessandro Pucci

If there are particular people you want to talk about and remember, let's do so.

===================

Open letter

We have three projects:
Create an article about John Corlette
on Wikipedia.org
Read the "Knol" that is being built (and submit your added data to aiglonreunion@gmail.com)

Create an article about Roy Watts on
Wikipedia.org

We also want an ORAL history of the school.

We need stories about these men and the school and the times they lived in.   From the stories we will cull details that can eventually turn into an article for our web site.   http://sites.google.com/site/myaiglon/  (this web page)

The audio stories will be blocked from the general planet and will not be "searchable" on Google.  The only way you can find the audio stories is through a password that we will periodically change to keep it "just within in the Aiglon community."

We are looking for pre-aiglon stories, too.   What shaped Roy Watts and John Corlette  to be the leaders and headmasters that we remember?   What do we not know about them that will help us understand them better?

What would you like us to remember about them?

We want AUDIO stories because the time spent spellchecking and formatting a single story can be used speaking about 3 or 4 other incidents.   We want pieces that describe the times.   We're creating an oral history of the people at Aiglon and their lives before and after the school.

A lot to capture.   Who has time for typing?  let's get the story on audio and go from there...

Best wishes

Jeremy, Steve, John and others who support this oral history project

(If you support this project, please send me an email and get your name on this list.   you can support it most if you make a short video and post it on youtube under "PRIVATE" and send me the coordinates, plus give me [stevecongeralpina@gmail.com]  permission to listen to it)

OTHER ATTEMPTS to publicize this Oral History Project

I sent this message to some people on Facebook

Jeremy McWilliam came up with a great idea.   "I want to write about certain expeditions.  I'd like to write down some notes and share them and see what other pople remember."

great idea.   http://www.myaiglon.com is the site for this fun activity.

"Beanie!"

I'm sure some of you remember that dog...

Send your memories, written or on video --point the camera at a yearbook photo and tell us a story.

Best wishes

Steve

If you don't care to receive these bulk messages, tell me and I'll take you off the list.

We're also encouraging staff to record meditations or to allow us to record the meditations.  Jeremy is recording his dad's meditation (that appears in the Aiglon Med. book, 1989) and I'm reading Teddy Senn's meditations (until we can get someone with a microphone to visit Teddy).  Eliz. Senn thinks her meditations are "old fashioned and out of date"... I can't persuade her otherwise, so I turn to oter alumni to contact Elizabeth and persuade her.   I think Teddy likes getting phone calls -- Louis Snyder gave me their phone number.   If you would like to contact Eliz. and Teddy, here is the number (contact stevecongeralpina@gmail.com if you want the phone number)

Let's encourage staff to share their memories with us.

Correspondence about myAiglon.com
Steve...very well done, my friend. I am so pleased that you have adopted the position and joined the ranks of "Aiglon School Historian"...those of you whom are so keen to document and to preserve Aiglon's remarkable early history, beginning with our  Founder. Once this project builds momentum, I can assure you, the old-timers will want to get in on this project.

Hopefully other alumni staff will put forth their most cherished memories of "J.C., The Man, and His School in the Alps."

Best regards,  Louie

REPLY:  Nice try, Louie.  We are ALL historian.  I'm just the scribe, web guy, content inserter.  Volunteers invited to join the effort.

Proposed Theme of the Reunion

When we're together, the years fall away. Isn't that what matters?

To have someone who can remember with you

  Judy Blume

Do you want to download a video from the Meditation site?

zamzar.com

grab the code from youtube.com

go to zamzar.com, click on DOWNLOAD VIDEOS

paste the youtube URL

enter your email address

choose .mov for the conversion (well, you can choose other formats)

in an hour the video is ready for downloading.   you receive an email

click on the link in the email and VOILA you have a downloaded movie.   For NON-broadband users, you might find it easier to find the mp3 file that will eventually be available --- I have to learn how to make mp3.

Thanks to Ben Udy for pointing out the need for alternatives to viewing the youtube videos...
On Apr 23, 2009, at 12:51 AM, Ben Udy wrote:
I would love to have that as an mp3 file. I have it downloading at the moment. I wish I knew how to save it to my hard drive to watch it without waiting a minute between each three words. Well it has been 15 minutes and the file is half loaded and I know watching/listening will be quite a treat in another 15.
Thanks
Ben

current project
I'm collecting photos about "what absent alumni were doing during the Reunion" and I hope you will send me photos...  do you have photos/videos we could include in the project?   Let's help the alumni who were in Chesieres see what you were doing... you all were in our thoughts.  I plan to make a slide show and a DVD collection and post it on youtube at www.youtube.com/myaiglon   stevecongeralpina@gmail.com

if you want to participate in just part of the idea, that's okay.

I want to make a facebook album with absent alumni activities

I plan a DVD with the photos and videos available

I could include your photos in the youtube slide show that I plan to put up.

for example, one of us was shooting the flurry srurrounding Michael Jackson for Reuters news

another alumnus was playing in a band

another was sitting on Skype talking with Clive Hartwell , eye to eye

another was waiting by the phone, and we in Chesieres didn't call

another was hosting a birthday party

we thought about a former history teacher who is now in Conn.

someone asked about a music teacher who is now in the south of France...

another was preparing for next year's challenges related to running a charity in Kenya

and all of them were in our thoughts...
For alumni who were present, you can submit photos, too, and we'll blend these photos together.  It will make a nice visual experience.

Deadline:  sept 15
There will be a DVD with a slide show, a youtube video/slideshow,  a video on facebook...  let me know if there is any part that you want to be omitted from.

Kudos!  Bravo!  Well Done!
Many years ago, I realized that the truest thanks I could give to my Aiglon teachers, would be to teach others with as much verve, generosity and
authentic kindness as I was taught by them.

There are others. I can see their faces and hear their voices, but it has been 40 years ago and their names elude me. Yet they are still my guides.

This "controlled blog" is the inspiration of Jeremy McWilliam (1976) who told me, "We really ought to write about our experiences at Aiglon.  Let's start a string and see what comments we receive."

You can make your comments on video, post the video to YOUTUBE and then send me the link.  Some of the comments were collected from the
THREE THINGS ABOUT AIGLON group on Facebook.

GUIDELINES
The symbol of this web page is the sundial:  we record the sunny hours.

When you give someone's email address, we'll list it like this

stevecongeralpina BAT gmail SPOT com   bat = @   SPOT = . (dot)

(This procedure will get around some automatic programs that scour the web loking for active email  addresses for spammers).

Phone numbers will not be listed as contacts except if you specifically give permission.   My mobile is +1 954 646 8246 because some people might want to instantly reach me and I check my alpina gmail account only twice a week.

When describing an expedition, you can say, "I was on an ex with Conger, McWilliam and M T"  because you haven't checked with MT yet.  When you check with him, then you can inform me and I'll change MT to his actual name... if he wants to be included in the story.

See below for the "list of OK names"

Do you have other suggestions?

Feel free to nominate more categories...  where is ____now?

When submitting a video for YOUTUBE, you can make the video PRIVATE or you can find a video service that is unsearchable (video.google.com has this feature, but google announce the video.google.com will be shut down, although the archive of videos will be kept intact.  So submit your video to video.google.com soon andyou can use the UNSEARCHABLE feature....)

Here are 4 things you can do to help prepare for the Aiglon Reunion in July

a)  visit   www.myaiglon.com and read some of the comments that Jeremy McWilliam has started.   Then compose your favorite memories (on video and upload to youtube then send the link from Youtube to aiglonreunion@gmail.com)  or email the memory for posting to  stevecongeralpina@gmail.com  - this web site was created to help people who are NOT on facebook to get into the spirit of the reunion...

b)  visit  www.FreeEnglishLessons.com then click on the RIGHT SIDE  "Aiglon Alumni Network"  -- the web page takes you to an index.  Click on EUROPE, then SCOTLAND and scroll down to John Cross.  There is a "Video" link and you can see the pub where JX will meet you if you drive through his town.

Erik Friedl in LA has Priscila's Cafe
http://sites.google.com/site/aiglonreunion/Home/alumniwebsites/categories/geography/geousa/geopacific

Steve Conger has the Eurobread Cafe in Fort Lauderdale
http://sites.google.com/site/aiglonreunion/Home/alumniwebsites/categories/geography/geousa/geosoutheast

Can you imagine your favorite meeting point on such a list?   Why not send the address of your favorite pub/cafe?

c)  subscribe to www.youtube.com/aiglonreunion and you will see 4 meditations up now and more coming.

d)  If you know someone who is NOT going to be in Chesieres, ask the person to register with the "WE WILL CALL YOU" list found on www.myaiglon.com   you can write to aiglonreunion@gmail.com with your phone or skype details and on 2 July 1600 hours Swiss time, we will call you.
