Welcome to my website! I am a social-personality psychologist who studies (1) status, (2) emotion, and (3) the social self. I will be joining the psychology faculty at the University of Illinois in the fall of 2012. I spend most of my time conducting research as director of the Chambana (Champaign-Urbana) Social Interaction (CSI) laboratory. In the CSI lab we use a variety of research methods to test hypotheses broadly about the nature of social interaction. For instance, in previous research we have examined the extent that strangers exhibit linked physiological responses during the course of an interaction. In other research, we have coded professional basketball games for the duration and content of physical touch. In all of these studies, our goal has been to understand how these processes shape the content of social interactions, foster empathy, improve performance, or signal a person's social status. The Newest Stories on Psych Your Mind: |
