MWC 2011 Parties List Mobile App

Welcome to the homepage of the MWC 2011 unofficial parties guide app!

The guide is a JavaME/Android app with all the info you need about *the* networking parties and events in Barcelona in the MWC 2011 week. All info is offline, so once you download the app, you don't need an internet connection (Which will hopefully save you some roaming $$$...)

And best of all - it's all for FREE!

The application should work on all phones supporting JavaME phones.

To download the app point your mobile browser to: http://budurl.com/mwc11

See you in Barcelona!

FAQ

Which events are listed?

Only free and "no strings attached" events are listed in the guide, but do note that some require RSVP or invitation, and in these cases you can find the necessary info in the event details page.

The info source for most events is myself (i.e. got a mail/invitation about the events), but some have been collected from external sources that are credited inside the app.

My event is not listed - how can I get it on the guide?

If you have a free event, you can add it in http://budurl.com/mwcpaddevent

I may issue an updated version later on with more events. However note that users who have already downloaded the app and don't check back won't see your event, so hurry to send the info in!

I have the [place your mobile device name here] - will it work on it?

The short answer is that there's one way to find out (download). The long answer is that while I didn't really test it on too many phones, since it was written with LWUIT it should work on most JavaME phones (CLDC 1.1/MIDP 2.0 onwards if you insist).

I have a JavaME/Android phone and I couldn't get the app to work?

Please drop me a line by filling out your mail and a comment here.

Do you intend to issue an iPhone version?

No - this is just a project for fun so I don't intend to make it portable to all phones, however as said it should work on most Android phone and JavaME phones (And that usually includes Symbian and BlackBerry devices who have a JVM).

iPhone users (And other platforms) can use the mobile web version.

Will the application update automatically when new events are announced?

Hell no!... This app is an offline app, and the whole idea is that you will not need to use mobile data while roaming in Barcelona, but rather have an offline handy guide. I may issue another more updated edition, so check back 1-2 days before MWC.

Do I need an active internet connection?

You need an internet connection only when you download the app, after that, you can launch the app at any time and access all the events info offline! However - there are a few external links available (such as venue's sites, Facebook event pages of some events) - and if you choose to browse to them, you will be warned about the application going online.

What are the terms of use?

This app is provided to you free as is and without any warranty of any kind. The author will not be liable for any damages caused by using it especially damages caused by using the app while walking and bumping into a tree.

This application is not affiliated with MWC or with any of the organizations listed here. All brands and trademarks are property of their respective owner.

Who?

This app was written by Ofir Leitner. Ofir is an expert in Java mobile technologies and specifically LWUIT, Sun’s mobile UI toolkit. Ofir is also the founder and chairman of MobileMonday Tel Aviv and shares his thoughts on mobile technology and business in his worldwide read blog www.nextgenmoco.com

How?

This app was built with LWUIT. LWUIT is a UI toolkit for the JavaME platform from Sun Microsystems. It enables making appealing and portable UI in JavaME an easy task like never before. Recently an HTML package was added to LWUIT, enabling developers to render local and remote HTML inside a JavaME app and creating fusions between the platform and web-flows.

Why?

Because I thought it would be handy to have all events details offline and in one place so I can access them quickly anytime. And then I thought why not share that with all MWC attendees. And then.... well, you get the picture.
