At Mountain View Middle School we implement the ideas brought forward by RTI (Response To Intervention) theories. We are proud to be innovators in reaching the needs of our students at the levels that they are currently working. In the past, students would not have the opportunities to participate in classes such as music, art, technology , fitness, or social studies in order to "double dip" in classes where they showed deficits. This would mean that students would receive two language arts or math classes and miss the curriculum that was being presented in the other classes.
Currently we are supporting a program where all students have their core classes and an elective, but are also enrolled in an enhancement class that meets four times per week. This class provides instruction to students at their ability level to try to close the learning gaps. The students who excel academically are enrolled in classes that help broaden their horizons and think in new and different ways.
Since implementing this program we have not only seen students grow academically, but also have more confidence. This program has also helped us improve our school attendance. We feel that through the hard work of the staff and students, Mountain View Middle School is an inviting and caring place for people to learn and work. We feel that the changes that have been made help us teach to the whole child. |
