Tournament Congratulations from Stanford Tournament
Individual Events
Patrick Sheehan was both a SemiFinalist in Impromptu and the 7th Place Finalist in Spar Debate
Andrew Gilley was a SemiFinalist in Foreign Extemporaneous and the 6th Place Finalist in Impromptu
Rylan Schaeffer placed in Finals in an amazing 3 different events: the 5th Place Finalist in Foreign Extemporaneous, the 2nd Place Finalist in Impromptu, and the Champion in Spar Debate!

The News page has not been updated in a while--apologies.

Most recently, Adron Mason was undefeated at the novice tournament at Saratoga in LD.  Congratulations!

Also, we will soon have a vote on team T-shirts online (http://sites.google.com/site/mvlasd/polling).  Stay tuned for that.

An update on LD

Daniel Moerner and Daniel Garber are fully qualified and auto-qualified to the Tournament of Champions.  Daniel Moerner received bids by winning the Valley Mid-America Cup (IA) and reaching semifinals of the St. Mark's Heart of TX invitational (TX).  Daniel Garber was a quarterfinalist at the Greenhill Invitational (TX) and semifinalist at the New York City Invitational (NY).  Daniel Khalessi and Jing Wang each have one bid; Khalessi was a semifinalist at St. Mark's, and Jing was an octafinalist.

        The recent Congress Tournament at Palo Alto High School had the following results:

in one House = Briannon Schaeffer = third place

in Another House = Chris Galdamez = third place

in Another House = Katie Keim = second place

in Senate = Rylan Schaeffer = first place

The competitive season begins

Although many members of the team are just beginning to learn about events, the varsity Lincoln-Douglas debate squad is already off to competitions around the nation.  Last weekend, Jeff Merill reached quarterinals at the Grapevine Invitational, where he was also ranked top speaker and first seed going into elimination rounds.  This weekend, we hope for more success as MVHS sends three debaters--Daniel G., Daniel K., and Jeff M.--to the Greenhill Fall Classic in Dallas, TX.

Debate camp successes

    The MVLA LD squad sent seven debaters to the National Symposium for Debate in Colorado Springs, CO for a two-week intensive preparation and learning session.  Libby J., Eric H., Megan M., Daniel M., Daniel K., Daniel G., and Jing W all attended.  At the camp tournament, Daniel K. reached Octafinals; Daniel G. reached Quarterfinals and was 4th speaker; and Daniel M. was both champion and top speaker.

    Summer is ending, and school is approaching quickly.  We will be resuming our weekly meetings on August 27, 2008 at MVHS (7-9 as usual).  Officers and captains only should attend the August 20th meeting at MVHS (7:45).
