...but I had a chance to play (and record) guitars. One of the guys at the Englewood church had this guitar in the back room of the "old" church. Sorry, I forgot his name, but he let me play it when we played in the "old" church - which was almost every Sunday night during the "River" prayer and praise service. He had found this old Vox "Bossman" V265 in the town's little music store, only a single pickup, but it had an interesting unique sound. I replaced the input jack, sprayed the pots, intonated with new strings, and cleaned it up for him, and he let me play it. The picture is borrowed and not the guitar I played (his was a tobacco-burst) - I don't think I have any of it. (Thanks to the Voxshowroom site: http://www.voxshowroom.com/us/guitar/bossman.html) This is the guitar used on the "Qodesh, Qodesh" song(s) I'm currently working on editing. I will include a link once I upload it to MacJams. I haven't decided if I'll make it Part 1 & 2 or add a third part yet. Another guitar I got to use was an Ibanez Artcore hollow-body electric. This one I used at Word of Life Ministries before I moved to Wyoming. I had used my S-28(?) previously, but wanted a smoother, mellower sound. That one was black, and can be seen and heard on "Prelude to Prayer". (thanks to the http://www.ibanez.com site) Also at Word of Life, I filled in for the Bass player a couple of times and used his Carvin 5-string bass. His actually has the quilted maple wings, instead of the walnut. At the time, I only had my Ashbory, and it was lost in the mix. Juice's bass can really be heard slapping and popping in several songs, but I haven't mastered the technique yet. (thanks to the http://www.carvinguitars.com site) Most recently, here in Wyoming. Once we got our new Praise Leader, his brother came along to play electric guitar. That is fine, because he is much better than me for the style of music we're playing - but then we needed a bass. I was recruited and played the church bass, a Fender . But during the Christmas music practices. I just heard lower notes than I could get on a 4-string. I even de-tuned the low E to get the D note - it just didn't sound as good when played an octave higher. Part of the church family, Bo was in the Marines in Iraq - so I got a chance to play his 6-string bass for awhile. It's an Ibanez Soundgear (thanks to the http://www.ibanez.com site) |
