Fund-raising is an important part of Music Sponsors South's activities. All funds raised go to support the South music program. Example expenditures include:

  • Subsidizing student activities such as the spring band trip (last year, $50 per student of MSS members). We have recently been to Washington, Boston, Toronto, and Virginia Beach. The band and chorus participate in competitions while on the trip.
  • Items that can't be covered by the school band budget (e.g. marching band score - $1200; competitions fees (e.g. $250); Parade fees (e.g. St. Patrick's Day); This year the school band budget was halved to $2000).
  • Additions to school uniforms (e.g. gloves, berets, ear bands, color guard scrunchies or ribbons, leadership lanyards...)
  • Thanks-you gifts to those that have gone out of their way to help, such as the custodians and music staff.
  • Senior scholarships
  • Stipends for student leaders required to go to U. of West Chester summer band camp (typically the drum majors and band president; This year 8 students attended the week long West Chester band camp, we subsidized 2).
  • Equipment or repairs (instruments, tractor, carts, golf cart, tents..)
  • Food for the competitions, parades, and special events (e.g. water for parades, snacks/water/treats for band camp, breakfast at Thanksgiving,...)
  • Supplies for the band festival when held at South (as it was in 2008 and 2009).
  • Providing initial funds to purchase student clothing (T-Shirts, shoes, garment bags, etc. until the students purchase the items)
  • Investments to support the other fund raising activities (e.g. Food Booth equipment and maintenance; state fee for 50/50 license).
  • Support for special events (not always completely self financing, such as the spring student awards night which had 144 participants!, which in 2011 we are targeting for June 10).

MSS sponsors has various types of fund-raisers:

  1. Those done individually by students where the proceeds go to individual accounts (to help defray the cost of the annual music trip in the spring (or other student expenses, such as year books)) . Examples include:
