On The Edge

A 2006 story/movie idea by Cecelia Taylor-Hunt

The setting of the entire story takes place at California in the summer of 1992 and it’s fast-forwarded to the year of 2007 at the same location. Anybody can face relationship problems and uses either drugs or liquor for comfort during their period of deep depression...or even death. In this story, one man faces depression in the past and present by going on a drinking binge. It almost killed him on his way to his deathbed…until a new friend who in that situation comes along in the picture. His new friend changed his life forever.

Craig Harper, lead singer of his grunge band called “Heartgrove”, goes on a very depressing drinking/smoking binge for one week. The reason: his famous model/actress Karen Jackson, his girlfriend of 5 years, left him for a much more attractive man named Danny Hunter. Even though Craig is 30 and his girlfriend Karen Jackson is 27, Craig grows more depressed with his life alone. His band doesn’t mind having no lovers by their sides, but he does. He knows that he’s hard on the eyes, but is not ashamed of admitting it to people. Two more problems: his mother’s death from lung cancer (his father died from natural causes when Craig was 8) and his gay cousin’s death from a gay bashing incident in front of a club his best friend owns. After 3 weeks passed during his one month binge, he then admits to himself that he’s hard on the eyes and he’s nothing but a straight up wino – one who drinks alcohol 24/7: Breakfast, Lunch, & Dinner and/or between meals. With all 3 events happening in one month, he wanted to kill himself and get away from people for good...but God told him: “It’s not your time yet, my son”.

He was hanging out at a bar called “Walker’s” at one evening. He sat at the bar table, wishing that he wants peace and quiet just by taking his own life. As he is sipping down his Coca Cola from his glass at the bartender’s table, a young black woman, about 25 years old, comes by and sits next to him. She also ordered Nestle’s Ice tea for herself. Craig glances at the woman and saw that she’s more beautiful on the inside. Her name: Jamie Ellis. She used to be a housewife for 2 years. Now, she’s an independent/underground filmmaker with her own company POWER UP Films. She’s facing manic depression, too. The reason: It turns out that her boyfriend, Danny Hunter, had her battered and beaten during 4-year relationship. Jamie is 25 and her ex is 28. Craig tells her that his ex, Karen, is with him right now. This news upset Jamie, but gave her relief somewhat. After that conversation, Craig and Jamie had sex at the backseat in his ‘85 Chevy Van. The next day, they became the best of friends. Jamie is his new partner-in-crime…and his new lover.

From this conversation, Craig turns to her and his band mates for help to get revenge and to make it a little harmful. His friendship with Jamie grew quickly from friends – to best friends – and to lovers in almost 2 weeks. A change has happened to him: he is officially Jamie’s lover. In the past, he was so used to being single, he doesn’t want any woman occupying his time with him and his music. Now, it was time for him and Jamie Ellis to change that. Craig and his band mates Terry Hall, Ray Brown, and Richard Nicholas pitched in with him and Jamie to get a somewhat harmful revenge. If this works, the rest is completely history, but one to never forget about. The revenge: pulling off fraternity-like hazing activities that could haunt anybody to their graves. All Craig and Jamie need is a lot of confidences, strength, love, tenacity, and a lot of laughs for themselves.
