A 2005 movie/episode idea by Cecelia Taylor-Hunt
INTRODUCTION:
“Mary’s Bird of Prey” is an interesting, but a very dark story for NBC’s TV Drama hit “Las Vegas”. Like any other episode, it takes place all over the city of Vegas. The story is about how the lives of two people have changed when they met at the Montecito’s Hotel and Casino. The two people: Birds Of Prey front man Seth Collins (now 44) and the casino’s Director of Special Events Mary Connell. In this story, it’s not your typical love story…it about family, forgiveness, courage, and becoming a “walking time-bomb” or just a “walking confessional”. What you’re about to see is that this writing carries out an outrageous premise that drives this episode from start to finish.
THE EPISODE’S PLOT:
Mary Connell, Director of Special Events of the Montecito, went to a club across town in Vegas with Danny McCoy, Ed Deline, and the rest of her crew for a huge concert. The reason: It’s Mary’s big birthday bash. Another reason: The Birds of Prey, a well-known underground rock band who’s promoting their 8th album in their 15th anniversary “The Wild Card.” The concert after-party was held at the Montecito’s Casino. Danny introduces the entire band to Mary. Seth Collins, their front man, spoke to Mary alone. She finds out that he’s her uncle and a babysitter. They’ve lost contact with each other since 1995. They’ve shed the tears of joy with each other with more conversation and glasses of Coca Cola. Seth is hard on the eyes, but stays proud of it
The story doesn’t end here.
From this event, it takes them through they’re worst memories more than just a full twist two days later. Mary will start having nightmares about her “stolen parts of her childhood” while staying with Seth and his bassist Sean Davis for her vacation. Seth will also go through changes with his nightmares about an extremely dangerous life-or-death situation he, Sean, and their former (but very close) neighbor were involved in back in November of 1991 when they were living in Downtown Seattle at Fremont.
CONCLUSION:
The conflicts about their past is haunting them both and they’re not pretty sights to see, but it can immediately pull you through by the throat and never lets you go until the episode is finished. Mary’s Bird of Prey is a dark drama with a lot of heart underneath. It concentrates only on Mary, her past, her love life, and her relationship with Collins and his band mates…all of that for 90 minutes or more. Watch out people, because the episode is as freaky as it gets. Not only Seth Collins is Mary’s uncle/babysitter, but he is also her Bird of Prey – her very own protector.
