After spending a few hours speed matching my locomotives I decided
to see if I could run them all together. Here's the result.
A 12 unit consist. All with NCE decoders run on an NCE Power Cab
with Smart Booster.
I was showing some friends my layout and starting running trains.
I told them my record train length was 71 cars with 5 locomotives.
Since we had nothing better to do, we decided to break the record.
Before long the yard was empty and I was running this monster
train that went completely around the layout. With the slack runout
there was only about 6 inches bewtween the caboose and the lead
locomotive (as seen at the end of the video).
House rules state that a train must complete 2 full, non-stop laps around the
layout (approx 80' of main line) without any derailments to qualify
as a new record. The train as you see it in the video completed
3 full laps without incendent. So my new record stands at.....
113 cars and 6 locomotives. My brother was kind enough
to capture this video with his BlackBerry.
The next day when breaking down the train, I had to back it up.
The lead loco moved 10-1/2 inches backwards before the caboose
started to move. Thats a lot of slack!
