Mulder

Hi!  My name is Dave Mulder.  I teach 7th and 8th graders science at Sioux Center Christian School.  Let me tell you a little about myself:

I grew up in Southern California.  I was born and raised in Bellflower, a suburb of Los Angeles.  I thank God for Christian parents who raised me to know and love the Lord.  I have a sister and twin brothers, all younger than me.  I attended Valley Christian Schools from Pre-school through 12th grade.  Sometimes I miss living in California (espcially the beach and the mountains!), but I really do enjoy living in Iowa.

After high school, I attended Dordt College.  I met my wife, Missy, while a student there.  After graduating in 1998, we moved to Escondido, California (about a 90-minute drive from where I grew up) where I took a job at Calvin Christian School teaching junior high math.

After living and teaching in Escondido for three years, I heard about a teaching opening at Sioux Center Christian School.  I accepted a position teaching junior high science in 2001 and have been enjoying that ever since!  I love teaching science because there are so many great "toys"!

In my free time, I enjoy playing the guitar, singing, cooking, and reading "big, fat books".  I also love to play with my kids and read to them too. Another hobby I've taken up recently is model railroading, something I've always wanted to do and never had the time or space.

Fun facts about Mr. Mulder:
  • I taught myself to juggle in high school--one day I was bored and decided to try it.
  • I worked at Burger King for three years.  I think that everyone should work a foodservice job in their life; it helps you appreciate the workers' side of things so much more!  I have also worked as a school janitor, a paper-shredder for an accountant, a camp counselor, a masonry tender, a web developer, a rough carpenter, a computer technician, a carpet cleaner, and an apprentice electrician. (And, of course, a teacher--which is my favorite!)
  • I love the "great outdoors", and I have been on several long hiking/backpacking trips. While camping in Yosemite National Park, I once climbed Halfdome in a day--a 17 mile round-trip hike!
  • I have visited 28 states, including every state west of the Mississippi River (except Alaska and Hawaii).  I have also been to Canada three times and Mexico six times.
  • I love music!  My favorite bands include Relient K, Sanctus Real, Newsboys, Jars of Clay, Tree63, Third Day, U2, and Casting Crowns.
