Pinewood Derby

Pinewood Derby is Friday February 26th at 6:45 PM at the Community Church

Check-in will start at 6:45. The race starts at 7:30

All family members are welcome to attend.

About the Race

Pinewood Derby (PWD) race is double elimination. This means that a car has to lose at least two heats before its out of the competition. Every Scout will get to see their car race at least twice.

Each den will race-off to determine the den’s 1st, 2nd and 3rd place winners. These Den winners will race-off to determine the Pack 1st, 2nd and 3rd place winners. After the Cub Scouts are finished racing, there is a family race where anyone can enter one or more cars, this includes parents, siblings, Boy Scouts, etc. Various prizes will also be given for the various design categories.

Race order: (1) Tigers (2) Wolves (3) Bears (4) Webelos I (5) Webelos II (6) Pack Finals (7) Family

Cars will be inspected during check-in for compliance to the rules set forth below:

Before the race starts, the best design awards will be handed out.

At check-in the cars will be taken and put on a display/staging table where they can be seen (not touched) by other Scouts and parents. Scouts will not have access to their cars once they are checked-in. Only race officials will be allowed to handle the cars from the time they are checked-in to the time they are returned to the Scout.

There will be a workbench with a scale, tools, spare parts, lubricant, extra weights etc. that you can use to make adjustments and repairs before check-in. No adjustments or repairs will be allowed after check-in. If a car is damaged during a race, Scouts will not be able to make repairs.

If a car jumps off the track or interferes with another car, the heat will be rerun. If the same car jumps off the track a second time, it automatically loses the heat (unless it is the fault of the track or another car) and it will be disqualified from the competition. Cars that can’t follow the track have a high likelihood of crashing into other cars and potentially damaging them.
