Camping

We have two camping trips each year.  They are typically the first weekend in Oct and June.

October 3-4, 2009 we're going to Stokes State Park (see Stokes page on this website)

Pack 10 Camping Rules:

  • Each Scout must be accompanied and supervised by their own parent, and sleep in a tent with their own parent unless exception cleared by the Cub Master.
  • Do not bring your own food. If you have special diet requirements, talk to Cub Master or Grub Master
  • NO FOOD IN TENTS, as it attracts bears. If you have food on your clothes (as kids frequently do), put those clothes in your car before you go to bed.
  • No smoking or alcohol is allowed
  • Only Webelos Scouts who have received their whittling chip card can bring a pocket knife
  • No siblings allowed, unless they are members of our pack or Mountain Lakes Boy Scouts Troop 41 (for insurance reasons)
  • Uniforms are optional, most Scouts don't wear them on campouts

Tips:
  • Don't trust the weather forecast, be prepared.
  • Dress in layers.  For the kids, Under Armor works well for a first layer and it's not cotton.
  • Cotton Kills - Cotton loses its insulating qualities when it gets wet, whether from rain or sweat. Cotton also takes a long time to dry out. Wool or synthetic materials are much better suited to winter camping in cold weather conditions.
  • If it's cold at night, sleep with a hat on, most of your body heat is lost from your head.  Do not sleep with your head inside the sleeping bag, the water vapor from your breath will make your sleeping bag wet and you'll be even colder.
  • Change into clean clothes before bed.  Even if your old clothes feel dry.  You'll be warmer and keep you sleeping bag cleaner.
