Israeli super-chip system is global hit Motorola (NYSE:MOT) recently presented its Israeli-developed third generation integrated microprocessor. Globes’ correspondent 12 Nov 02 One of the latest hot fields in the slumbering semiconductor market is the integrated microprocessor, consisting of a processor, peripheral circuits, memory and communications on a single chip. Motorola (NYSE:MOT) recently presented its third generation processors of this type, the PowerQUICC III series, developed in Israel. The processor, designed for landline and wireless communications applications, combines a PowerPC architecture, Communications Processor Module (CPM), two gigabyte interfaces and a PCI-X input/output system. The integration of a complete system onto a single microprocessor saves production costs, improves communications equipment reliability, ensures compactness and saves energy, all of which are important factors in equipping communications centers.
