Women's health

Chinese medicine really excels in the area of women's reproductive and general health, emotional and physical.  The menstrual cycle is a large piece of diagnosis, whether an issue is related to fertility or reproduction, or any other complaint.  In working with women, the state of the Blood is a very important factor.  Blood can "congeal, stagnate, move recklessly" -- affecting the internal and external health.  Often herbs, vitamins and other dietary or nutritional supplements are needed to "nourish the blood," "invigorate blood," and "harmonize" -- key principles in restoring healthy function.  The use of supplements and herbs add "substance" -- a Chinese medical concept that builds and restores.

Infertility and Reproductive Health:

Studies now confirm that acupuncture helps increase the success rate for pregnancy when administered for a few cycles before trying to get pregnant.

Dysmennorhea (Abnormal Cycles):

Regulating the cycle and reducing symptoms of PMS.  Acupuncture not only helps stabilize the menstrual cycle, it also helps calm the Mind and ease anxiety.

Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome:

A condition of amenorrhea or scanty periods, often associated with infertility, it can be treated and alleviated with Chinese herbs and acupuncture.

Endometriosis and Pelvic Inflammatory Disease:

Endometriosis is a condition whereby the outermost layer of the uterus (endometrium) overgrows and invades surrounding tissues including the bladder, rectum and intestines.  It is the most common cause of infertility.
PID is painful - it is an infection that has migrated to the uterus, fallopian tubes and reproductive organs.
These conditions take longer to treat, a minimum of 4 months, since they took longer to develop and are therefore more complicated than functional painful periods.  Some strategies are moxibustion (warming of the herb Artemisia Vulgaris, also known as Mugwort) over points on the lower abdomen to move qi and blood, open the channels and help dissolve masses, as well as changes in diet, supplementation with Chinese herbs, and cupping to release deeper stagnation.  Chinese herbs that dissolve "phlegm nodules" and move Blood are indicated to boost results.
