A good book that students can use as a suppliment to help understand the basic concepts of biology is "Biology DeMystified" by Dr. Dale Layman.  This book is written in an easy to understand manner while giving just enough details to get the general concepts across.  It can be found at Barnes & Nobel and online.

 

A good website for studying the cell portion of the class is CellsAlive.com.  Unfortunately we cannot access it from school due to firewalls.
