AP PREP UNIT WORDS

 Setting
If you are thinking that 'setting' means the 'time and place' of a literary work---you are wrong. So much more goes into the setting!! From the culture to the weather---it all  matters--to the characters, to the imagery, to the symbols, to the theme! So we must begin to ask ourselves 'setting' questions. Is it raining? Are the characters walking south? What are they wearing? Questions such as these are important clues to a deeper, clearer understanding of the text. Once you discover the nuances of setting, it will nevermore be simply the time and place of the story! Setting is a whole world of meaning and context waiting for the careful reader to explore!
