Topographic Treasure Map
1. Use a piece of construction paper to create your own topographic treasure map.
2. Draw the area's outer boundaries and include contour lines to indicate the relief of the area. Be sure to indicate the contour index numbers to show what the contour intervals are. There must be at least one mountain peak on the treasure map with a high elevation.
3. Include landscape details such as rivers, peaks, depressions, and other features found on your topographic symbols sheet. Name some of the features as well.
4. Use a white crayon to make a dotted line to draw a path to the treasure.
5. Draw a compass rose in a corner of the map to show the orientation of directions.
6. Use crayons to color forests, water, and other landscape details. To add special affects, crumple the paper and/or tear around the edges to create an aged look to your Treasure Map.
