Seniors--welcome to COE Writing. Our product goal is to create a portfolio with expository and persuasive samples writing to submit to the state for evaluation in February.
10/26/09: Most students were in Seattle at the play. Those students remaining behind worked on missing assignments.
10/19-10/23/09: We're continuing the revision process with the goal of having everyone finished with the first three essays by the end of this week.
10/12-10/16/09: We are working on revisions of previous drafts and continuing the drafting process for the prejudice prompt.
10/9/09: Students began creating their rough drafts for the prejudice prompt.
10/8/09: Students created outlines for the prejudice prompt.
10/7/09: Students examined the prompt and began brainstorming ideas to write about their experiences with prejudice.
10/6/09: We read an excerpt from The Invisible Man and continued our discussion about prejudice and the effect it has on people.
10/5/09: Students began reading and analyzing 3 poems about prejudice, sparking a discussion about the different types of prejudice in the world.
10/1/09 & 10/2/09: Students finished their Grandchildren essays.
9/30/09: We started typing up rough drafts to enter into MyAccess.
9/29/09: We continued working on those rough drafts.
9/28/09: Students began writing rough drafts today following the ideas in their rough drafts.
9/25/09: Students continued working on their outlines, adding details to include in their letters.
9/24/09: We used the ideas in "I Remember" to brainstorm ideas for the grandchildren letter. Students began creating an outline.
9/23/09: We began analyzing the poem "I Remember" today, examining his use of imagery, diction, and details.
9/22/09: We analyzed the meaning of perspective today and discussed how being aware of these two concepts will help with the next writing assignment.
9/21/09: We analyzed the meaning of perception today and examined the next writing prompt: Letter to your Grandchildren.
9/18/09: We finished our first essay final draft today on MyAcess. Print all drafts and turn in.
9/17/09: Today in class we continued working on revising drafts of the American essay through MyAccess.
9/16/09: Today in class, we continued working on MyAccess, finishing first drafts and working on second drafts.
9/15/09: In class today, we logged onto MyAccess and began typing the first draft of the America essay.
9/14/09: In class today, we worked on rough drafts for the American essay. We'll be in the lab tomorrow typing the final drafts.
9/11/09: In class today, we finished creating an outline for the American essay and began the rough draft.
9/10/11: In class today, we finished examining "Being an American" and began whittling down our list of American attributes to individual choices, looking for a common theme.
9/9/09: In class today, we began reading and analyzing the student essay entitled "Being an American".
9/8/09: In class today we examined the poem "Let America be America Again" by Langston Hughes and added to our list of qualities that makes a person an American.
In class this week we are beginning our first unit of study by reviewing the American Dream and what it means to be American. In class we'll be reading an excerpt from Joy Luck Club called "Double Face". |
