COE Reading

Seniors--welcome to COE Reading. Our product goal is to create a portfolio with samples of your work demonstrating competency in reading literary and information text. We will submit the portfolio to the state in February for evaluation.
 
 
10/26/09: Most students were gone to the play. Students remaining behind worked on missing assignments.
 
10/20-10/23/09: We're beginning our next story.
 
10/19/09: Final class day for revisions for this unit.
 
10/12-10/16/09: We continued our revision process, getting papers ready for the portfolio and grades ready for progress reports.
 
10/9/09: Some students continued to work on "The Monkey's Paw" while others began revising their responses from previous stories.
 
10/8/09: Students continued working on their "Monkey's Paw" questions.
 
10/7/09: We finished reading and discussing "The Monkey's Paw" and began answering questions.
 
10/6/09: Students reviewed the questions for "The Monkey's Paw", previewed vocabulary words, and began reading the text.
 
10/5/09: Students finished working on "The Necklace" questions.
 
10/2/09: Students continued working independently on the questions for "The Necklace."
 
10/1/09; We continued reading and marking the text for "The Necklace" and then began answering the first question.
 
9/30/09: We examined the three questions students will answer for their portfolios and then began reading and discussing the story "The Necklace".
 
9/29/09: We discussed events in which students would want to dress up: prom, homecoming, wedding, 21st birthday party, etc and why it would be important to do so. We then previewed vocabulary for the story "The Necklace".
 
9/28/09: Students worked to either revise the Tell Tale Heart responses or to finish the Sleepy Hollow questions.
 
9/25/09: Most students finished question #2 today.
 
9/24/09: We began question #2 today.
 
9/23/09: We finished question #1 today.
 
9/22/09: We continued working on question #1.
 
9/21/09: We finished reading Sleepy Hollow and began answering the first question.
 
9/18/09: Sleepy Hollow continues.
 
9/17/09: Today in class, we continued reading "Sleepy Hollow", marking the text for character traits of The Headless Horseman and Ichabod Crane.
 
9/16/09: Today in class, we began reading "The Legend of Sleepy Hollow".
 
9/15/09: Today in class, we finished working on the two questions for "The Tell-Tale Heart".
 
9/14/09: In class today, we continued working on the two questions for The Tell-Tale Heart.
 
9/11/09: In class today we began working on the second question for The Tell-Tale Heart: what problem does the narrator face and what 3 steps does he take to solve it? We will finish it on Monday.
 
9/10/11: In class today students individually answered the first question for the Collection, making an inference about the narrator. Homework: finish your first paragraph using text-based evidence and connecting it to your inference.
 
9/9/09: In class today, we marked the text for character traits of the Old Man and the Narrator. I gave you an example of an inference about the Old Man and provided text-based evidence so that you can do the same tomorrow for the Narrator.
 
9/8/09: In class today, we finished reading The Tell Tale Heart and began an oral summarization of each chunk.
