About Mrs. Miller

I grew up in South Eastern North Carolina around Mount Olive (where they make all the pickles).  I always liked school and was involved in a lot of clubs and sports.  My high school softball team even won the state championship during my Sophomore year.  I went to college at UNC-Chapel Hill and received a degree in Psychology (Go Heels!).  My plan was to work in an elementary school for a little while and then go back to grad school for a degree in guidance counseling.  However, it just didn't feel quite right for me.  I got bit by the teaching bug and I decided I wanted to be a classroom teacher instead.  So I still went back to school, but this time to get my teaching license.  I taught kindergarten for four years at Baucom Elementary in Apex, but when the opportunity came to move to a school closer to home, I jumped at the chance.  Luckily, I was hired on at Sycamore Creek, so I have the once in a lifetime opportunity to open a new school.  I can't tell you how excited I am about that.  I am really looking forward to seeing what this year brings.

I love hiking in the mountains and camping at the beach.  My life is all about having fun, so I try to apply that in my teaching as much as possible.  One of my mentor teachers once told me, "If the kids aren't having any fun why would they want to be there?"  I think about that everytime I plan a new lesson.  It is important to me that my students are having fun.  I want to give them a great start to a long and successful school career.
