Objectives for Research Paper Assignment

  • Recognizing that researching, organizing and writing are essential elements of every academic field, sophomore students at Wilmington High School will:
    • Gather, interpret and document primary and secondary sources
    • Develop an analytical, arguable thesis statement to guide their research
    • Prove their thesis statement by effectively analyzing primary and secondary source documents and create a paper that is uniquely the work of the student
    •  Use academic and appropriate language while practicing language mechanics and rules of grammar
    • Peer and self edit to reinforce analytical and writing skills
    • Use a computer as a research tool with major emphasis placed on Internet and Media Center skills
    •   Recognize and avoid plagiarism using the Modern Language Association’s citation and documentation guide

    These assignments will count as 5% of your final Term One Grade (2.5% each)

     

    Term Two

    These assignments will count as 10% of your final Term Two Grade (5% each)

     

    Term Three

    Rough Draft …………………………………………………..January 9, 2012

    Final Draft (with Updated Annotated Bibliography)…....………March 5, 2012

    These assignments will count as 20% of your final Term Three Grade (10% each)
     
     Assignments are due on or before the deadline.  Absence or dismissal from school is not an excuse for handing in late work.  Please plan ahead.

     

    Ten points will be deducted from the final grade of any assignment which is not received by the teacher by 2:05 p.m. on the day of the deadline.  It is the responsibility of the student to make certain that work is submitted to the teacher on time.  Teachers cannot be responsible for misdirected or blocked emails --- so students should avoid waiting to the last minute to submit work.
