MATH 7R – Mrs. Motley
“All students can learn and be successful.”
Link to Motley Math Blogger Page
Course Description: Math 7 will cover topics in Number Theory, Geometry, Integers and Operations, Ratio and Proportion, Percents, Fractions and Decimals, Business Math, Algebra, Graphing, Probability and Statistics. Special attention will be focused on organizational and study skills required to be successful not only in math, but in every subject.
Materials:
· A textbook will be provided and must be left home all year for H.W. assignments
· A three- ring binder (1-1½ inch) with a small amount of loose-leaf
· Scientific calculator (TI-30XIIS), please put your name on back – they all look alike!
· Pencils and at least one colored pen/pencil for homework corrections
· Highlighter
· Pen/pencil case to hold calculator, highlighter, pencils
· Additional materials will be required later in the school year (ruler, compass, graph paper …)
Grading: Your quarterly grade will be calculated based on tests, quizzes, homework, and preparedness/participation. Weekly challenge problems (POW’s) are assigned for an opportunity to add points to lowest quiz grade. Each student will be given a “grade sheet” to keep in their binders to record their test and quiz grades.
Any test or quiz below a 70 must be signed by a parent/guardian.
Homework: Homework will count as a 105 point unit test grade for each marking period. Homework is assigned almost every night, even weekends, and each assignment is given a H.W. number. Each missing homework will result in a five point deduction; each incomplete homework is a 3 point reduction. If you are absent, you are expected to make up classwork and homework.
Daily homework is crucial to reinforcing daily lessons and skills, and is an effective way to develop positive study habits.
Daily Routine: Upon entering the classroom, you will pick up a daily “Do Now” worksheet or copy the “Do Now” from the board, sit down, and quietly complete it. You must be prepared (pencil, binder, calculator...) and in your seat before the bell rings. Please have your binder open to last night’s homework and check the board for homework assignments, and upcoming tests/quizzes. All tests and quizzes are posted days in advance and on my website.

Classroom Rules:
· When the bell rings, you are to be in your seat and ready to begin working.
· Please be prepared. You must bring a pencil, notebook, highlighter and calculator with you to each and every class.
· Please keep your backpacks under your desks - I move around the classroom a lot!
· Class ends when the bell rings. You may not pack up until then. I treasure every minute with you!
· RICE, RICE, RICE! (Respect, Impulse Control, Compassion and Equity) No one in this room will belittle, embarrass, harass or degrade one another. We all are bringing something special to this class and we can all learn from each other, even I!
Detention: If you are given detention, you must serve detention on the following detention day (same as extra help days) at exactly 2:41 in my classroom.
Extra Help: I am available every Monday, Wednesday and Thursday at 2:41 in Room 140. It is mandatory that you come to extra help with a question or topic that you are having difficulty with. ALL STUDENTS MUST SIGN IN.
Fact: Math is the most cumulative of all subjects. The topics you learn in 7th and 8th grade are the essential building blocks for your success in high school and crucial to your high achievement on Regents Exams, SAT’s and State Assessments.
I will try my hardest to make every topic relative to your daily lives but remember: “Studying math accomplishes two goals: It prepares some kids to think like scientists, and it prepares all the rest of them to think, period.”
Please read and sign below. Contracts will be collected, checked and then returned to each student.
I have read and understand all classroom rules and my responsibilities as a student in this class.
