Tomorrow we will be starting into the last section of the course: weather. This topic will be short, only lasting 3 days. We will be having work assigned everyday to help everyone get every last mark they can before exams start. For those who may have missed any time in the last days or two here are some things you may want to know:
Sunday January 15, 2011 The last Chemistry test will be Tuesday January 17. Anyone who misses the test must have a parent/guardian contact me and the rewrite will be Thursday at lunch or Thursday after school. Time is slowly ticking down to exams. Please make sure you are reviewing frequently so you do not end up cramming for the exam the night before. If you stumble upon questions please remember to ask during any down time in class or come to extra help. This weeks extra help times are: Monday - lunch (room 200) Tuesday - none Wednesday - lunch (room 105) Thursday - after school (room 200) Friday - after school (room 200) Sunday January 8, 2011 Final Exam Schedule: 1st Semester
* If there is a storm on the day of an exam, all exams will be pushed ahead one day. * If there is a 1 hour delay, the exams will start at 10 am instead of 9:30 * In case of sickness please call the secretary BEFORE the start of exams. * If you know you are not able to make an exam, arrangements must be made with Principal (Ms. Willis) prior to exams. Friday January 6, 2011 Welcome back to school and happy 2012! For the next few weeks we will be continuing on with Chemistry in hopes of completing the unit around January 18. That will leave us some time to spend on weather. Over the past week we looked at the three types of chemical compounds: 1. Section 5.8 - Ionic Compounds (binary) 2. Section 5.9 - Ionic Compounds (ternary/polyatomic) 3. Section 5.10 - Molecular Compounds We learned how to: - name each type of formula - write the formula for each type of compound - identify the differences between binary ionic and ternary ionic (polyatomic) compounds. *The notes/worksheets can be found in Notes and Assignments (Term II). On Monday we are going to - review the three types of compounds - ensure we can identify the differences between the three types of compounds - begin the next section: 5.12/5.13 On Tuesday we will - write an in-class assignment on the three types of compounds (both name and writing formulas). - begin Chapter 6: notes on 6.1/6.3 *Please remember that extra help is: 1. Every Tuesday/Thursday after school from 3:15 - 4:15 2. Every Wednesday at lunch (rom105) from 11:40 - 12:20 3. This Monday after school from 3:15 - 4:15 4. There will not be extra help everyday, but please come and see me if none of these times work, and you need extra help. Friday December 2, 2011 B/D classes - please complete the Physical/Chemical properties lab and pass it in for Monday. A class - please complete the Atomic Structures Worksheet for Monday. * Please remember the correction for the last problem: atomic #33, neutrons 42. All groups: - Monday you will get your Physics tests back. - SAS has been update. - Please show me the worksheets from the computer lab (Tuesdays/Thursdays classes) to receive completion marks by the end of Monday. - Symbols Quiz on Friday. For some practice check out the symbols review. - Wednesday we will be going to the Chemistry lab, so please return your lab safety sheet signed by you, and a parent/guardian before then. - Notes have been update. Monday November 28, 2011 Today we completed the Physics section as we wrote our Physics test. Anyone who missed the test must have a legitimate excuse that is expressed in writing or by phone to me from a parent or guardian.
This week we will be exploring Chemistry by reviewing many concepts you were introduced to in Jr. High. We will be moving through this section very quickly so we can practice some concepts in the Chemistry lab.
HW:
- Remember to pass in your signed Lab Safety Rules Sheet asap.
- HHPS and WHMIS labelling sheet
- Answer the following questions using page 176-178 and 658-660 in your text:
1.What does HHPS stand for?
2.What does WHMIS stand for?
3.Name 5 household products that are not reactive.
4.Why do you think we use hazardous chemicals when safer methods and materials are known?
5.Give an example of a hazardous substance that might be found in the
1.Kitchen
2.Bathroom
3.Garage
4.garden
6.Make a list of safety rules that should be followed in the lab. What sort of consequences should be put in place for students who do not follow the lab safety rules?

Please see the Calendar as well. This is a 4 day week, with report cards being distributed on Tuesday November 22. Have a great week!! Tuesday Nov 1, 2011 Exams are continuing to creep up on us, only 3 more classes! Please keep up with your homework and review a little bit every night to help prepare. That way you may not have to cram 2 months worth of material in one study session the night before the exam. Please keep looking at your Exam Review sheet.
Today I handed back the marks for the Species at Risk Presentations. If anyone has any questions about them, please come see me outside of class so we can look through your slideshow together. We corrected last nights homework (explaining accuracy and precision using an example; defining distance, time, speed, average speed, constant speed, and instantaneous speed); and corrected the solving equation problems from page 349 # 7 in your textbook. If you have any quetions on that material please come and see me.
As we move along in Physics we looked at the equation to calculate speed, distance, and time today. We worked through 4 examples in class to see how we would use it in calculations. Then you received your first speed, distance, time worksheet. Please complete #'s 1-5 for tonight.
* For anyone who missed the Physics test last Thursday just a reminder that the test time is tomorrow at lunch in Room 200.
