Below you will find a list of daily activities.  If you click on the Pop Lit Incomplete grades link you will see all the "deal breaker" assingments needed to pass this class. Deal breakers are subject to change and modification.  In the attachment section you will find most assignments, handouts, readings, and powerpoint presentations. 
 
     

 
10/23 until 11/25  We will be reading the novel Fahrenheit 451.  There will be several in class projects including a major essay.  There will also be a test after part 2.  Essays are due the day we return from Thanksgiving break.
 
10/22 In class time to work on Anti-utopia Project
 
10/21 What is symbolism?
 
10/20 finished Mad Molly and discussed project, new project handout given.

10/13 Watched the movie Gattaca.  
 
10/12 Harrison Bergeron Quiz and then we watched the movie Gattaca 
 
10/9  We read Harrison Bergeron. 
 
10/8 We discussed the difference between Utopia, Dystipia, and Antiutopia.  Please print and do the Utopia Handout and the Utopia Handout Questions. 
 
10/7 We unpacked Unit 3: Utopia and took notes. 
 
10/6 TEST!
 
10/5  We played Jeopardy as a way to review for Tuesday's test.
 
10/2  We read "A Sound of Thunder".  "A Sound of Thunder" packets are due before the test on Tuesday. 
 
10/1 We  finished "Different Kinds of Darkness" and discussed the story.  Skyward log-in information was given.  We also discussed the test that will be next Tuesday and started looking at "A Sound of Thunder".
 
9/30 We read "Different Kings of Darkness" from the New Skies book.  Sub 1st and 4th.
 
9/29  We presented our stories.
 
9/28  We presented our stories.  This is a major oral presentation grade.  YOU MUST PRESENT YOUR STORY. 
 
9/25 We workshoped our stories.
 
9/24 We purged.  Then we talked about our next story and got two handouts. 
 
9/23  We played a trivia game using quetions from stories we've read.
 
9/22 We read "The Teething Ring" and answered the questions in our technology packet.  We then reviewed the stories we've read this unit.  Then we talked about the difference between showing and telling.
 
9/21 Today we read "The Weapon" and answered the questions in our technology questions packet.  We then workshoped our outlines.
 
9/18 We got a project description and rubric for our short stories (rough draft due next Friday), and then shared our newspaper articles about technology.  An edible prize was given for the best technology article.  Please be sure to get a project description from Ms. Hendry ASAP!  Outlines of the short story are due Monday.
 
9/17 We made a plot chart for "A Walk in the Sun" and then read "The Fun They Had".  We answered the questions page one of the technology questions.  Attachments below.
 
9/16 We finished "A Walk in the Sun" and did a group writing activity where we wrote REALLY BAD basic short stories! 
 
9/15  We read "A Walk in the Sun" and then had a "Think, Ink, Pair, Share" session about what make for a good short story.  Be sure to copy someone's notes as this was a VERY important discussion. 
 
9/14 Today we unpacked unit 2.  We then read aloud from New Skies the story called "A Walk in the Sun".  There is no electronic version of this story.
 
9/11 Test 1
 
9/10 Finished History of Sci Fi Powerpoint, worked on 5 W's sheet.  You must write two-three questions for each W and then answer the questions.  These should be questions you think will be on tomorrow's test.  For tomorrow's test you can use a "cheat sheet" as long as it is 3x5 and is in your own handwriting.  The test will also have a written portion.  You will have to write a one page short story from the perspective of an alien or robot watching humans.  The test is on "Made of Meat", "Men are Different", the definition of Sci Fi and Fantasy, and the history of Sci Fi. 
 
9/9 We read "Made of Meat" in class and then started the Ws and History Of Sci Fi Powerpoint
 
9/8 Quiz on Men are Different. As a class we came up with the definition of Sci Fi and Fantasy. 
 
9/4 Notes on what is sci fi and what is fantasy.   Notes on strategies for facing difficult text.
Group work on What is Sci Fi Quote handout.
Class Syllabus and Senior Contract handout (both on one handout)
Homework: sign and return senior contract and read Men are Different handout.  Be ready for a quiz on Men are Different on Tuesday.  No school Monday.
