In Class: Students started their short story assignment using the theme of temptation

Homework: Temptation short story (see below) due Tuesday, 12/8

Temptation Short Story Assignment

Your job is to create a 3-6 page (doubled spaced) short story based on the theme of temptation.  We just finished reading The Crucible, where Abigail ruined people’s lives, accused people of witchcraft, and watched people hang because she was tempted to pursue John Proctor.  Abigail gave in to her temptations, but not all characters do.  Sometimes characters overcome temptation (like Aladdin – he didn’t touch anything but the lamp… he was not tempted to touch the gold and treasures).   What will your character do?  DUE TUESDAY, DECEMBER 8th

Before you start writing, make sure you complete:

_________/10                 Characterization Chart - Have Ms. Foster sign off on this 1st

_________/15                 Story Board - Have Ms. Foster sign off on this 2nd

Your story will be graded on the following:

_________/5                    Your name is on this rubric & stapled to the back of your story

_________/5                    Have a creative title for your story

_________/10                                Your story is typed in 12 point font, double spaced, 3-6 pages in length

_________/10                 Punctuation, grammar & mechanics are correct

_________/20                 You have a theme of temptation in your story – the character(s) is tempted by something & they either give into the temptation or s/he overcomes temptation

_________/20                 Your story has a solid beginning, middle & ending.  You do not leave the reader hanging or wondering what’s going on.   Make sure you write with ample details, have a plot, descriptive setting, etc.

_________/20                 SHOW DON’T TELL – your narration includes physical actions, facial features, and thoughts in order to show a clear, consistent emotion

_________/10                 Word Choice – use vivid verbs and sophisticated vocabulary

_________/10                 Style – use a variety in sentence structure and length.

_________/15                 Creativity – your story is creative (i.e. an interesting problem & solution, descriptive characters, etc.)

_________/150 Points Total
