In Class: Students worked on questions 11-16 in their purple packets. If students completed this, they could work on their vocabulary and/or journal.

In Class: Students read chapter eight individually or in groups.

In Class: Students continued reading 1984 as a class.  Students received a purple packet of questions for the unit.  If a student loses the packet it will be $1.00 to replace, as they are thick packets. 

Homework: Finish reading up to chapter 2 (page 20) and complete questions 1-4 for Monday.

In Class: Students watched a video clip and finished the following:

1)      Describe the people sitting and watching the movie screen. (2 pts)

 

 

2)      What is the person on the screen saying? (2 pts.)

 

 

3)      What is different about the person running? (2 pts.

 

 

4)      What is the girl swinging? (2 pts.)

 

 

5)      What happens to the screen? (2 pts.)

 

 

6)      What do you think the message is that Apple is trying to convey? (2 pts.)

 

 

7)      What do you think 1984 is going to be about?  (3 pts.)


Homework: Read the first two pages of 1984 & using the description of the poster, recreate a mini-poster with the head and saying "Big Brother Is Watching You".  10 points if you poster is accurate, the saying is on it and it is colorful.

In Class: Students looked at the ERATS discipline policy and wrote up ten things they agreed or disagreed with and why they think that policy is in place.

Tuesday, 11/3/09

In Class:   Students filled out an anticipation chart for the book we will soon be reading, 1984 (sheets can be found in Tuesday's folder).  Students then had to write two paragraphs (a paragraph consists of at least five sentences) with their opinions on one of the statements.  Paragraphs were due at the end of the hour.
