Lab Safety Rules The laboratory is a safe place to work and learn if used responsibly. I understand that it is my responsibility, as a student and classmate, to maintain a safe working environment in the laboratory. Accordingly, I agree to follow all the safety rules listed below, as well as any other oral or written safety instructions provided by the teacher in the future.
1. I will follow directions and safety procedures and do only what my teacher has authorized.
2. I will not bring food or drinks into the lab, and I will not chew gum.
3. I will wear protective clothing, such as goggles, lab aprons, closed shoes and/or gloves when working with chemicals or heat sources. I will also tie back and/or remove loose clothing, jewelry, or long hair.
4. I will not touch any lab equipment until told to do so.
5. I will handle all laboratory equipment and materials properly. I will not touch, taste, or smell materials unless instructed to do so by the teacher.
6. I will conduct myself in an appropriate and responsible manner at all times. I will not fool around by running or throwing objects at any time in the lab.
7. I will familiarize myself with the laboratory techniques involved in each activity before attempting to perform the activity. And if I am unsure, I will ask.
8. I will familiarize myself with the procedures to be followed in case of fire or other laboratory emergency.
9. I will learn the location and proper use of the safety equipment in the classroom, such as the fire blanket, extinguisher, shower, eyewash and telephone.
10. I will report any accident or injury - no matter how trivial it may seem - to the teacher, immediately. This includes, but is not limited to, spills on skin or clothing, broken glass, and cuts.
11. I will not handle or use broken or chipped glassware, and I will notify the teacher immediately.
12. After each lab activity has been completed, I will turn off the water, disconnect all electrical equipment, and dispose of all chemicals as directed. I will return all materials and equipment to their proper place, clean my lab area, and wash my hands.
13. I understand that clean up is a group effort, and no one will be dismissed until all tables and equipment are clean and returned to their proper places.
14. I will provide the teacher with information that might affect my health and safety in the classroom (allergies/health concerns):
