Math: We will do multi-digit addition and subtraction with regrouping this quarter!  We will also do multiplication and division again and learn what strategies to use!  Second quarter also includes alegebra concepts including:  geometric and numeric patterns and finding the value of an unknown in number sentences. We will also begin a fun unit on measurement. We will learn the metric and customary system and use pan balances to find the mass of a lot of different things!

 

Reading: We will focus on reading and comprehending expository text (nonfiction text). We will look at biographies, articles, brochures, autobigographies, etc.  Students will learn that nonfiction text includes things like headings, subheadings, captions, bold and italic words, pictures, and a title.

Writing: The students will write letters, directions, and learn how to create learning logs. We will also write summaries this quarter. 

Science: We will learn ALL about the Human Body! The students will study the skeletal and muscular systems. They will learn about bones, joints, and muscles and be able to create some of their own models!

Social Studies: We will look at Unit 4 on Geography this quarter. Students will have an opportunity to complete a Flat Stanley project for this unit!
