Math: We will begin the year with a comprehensive unit focused on number sense, place value, and strategies for addition and subtraction. Be sure to check out "Curriculum Corner" in the weekly newsletter for specific information! Also, be sure to check for Family Letters that go home for detailed information about how to teach and practice with your child the specific methods. Reading: This year we will focus on digging deeper into texts. The first quarter will focus on learning strategies to become "better readers." The students will learn strategies that good readers use before and during reading (i.e. CROP-QV strategies). Be sure to check out "Curriculum Corner" in the weekly newsletter for specific information!
Writing: The students will be immersed in a student-driven writer's workshop throughout the school year. During 1st quarter we will spend a lot of time developing ideas for writing and establishing the routines for this writer's workshop. Each writing unit will be concluded with a Writer's Celebration!
Science: First quarter's unit focuses on "Objects in the Sky". Students will study the sun, moon, and stars! A special StarLab has been reserved for the end of 1st quarter! Mrs. Chapman will teacher all track 4 students Science
Social Studies: I will teach all track 4 students Social Studies. This quarter we are focusing on our Citizenship and Government unit. |
