Second Life® main websiteHere you can get started (see Alert below), read about the Main Grid, and download the software.  NOTE:  You must meet the system requirements to use SL™.  Be sure your computer meets the standards.  From experience, I can tell you that only having the minimum requirements is frustrating so
hopefully you have a more powerful system to enjoy your SL™ residency.


Alert:  Educators can now bypass the regular orientation system and land directly in the Education Region of SL by utilizing the ISTE Educator Pathway (a joint venture of ISTE and Linden Lab) into SL.  Use this LINK to register, go through the avatar creation process, and land at the ISTE welcome area.  Here educators will find resources for beginning their exploration of the Education Region of SL. ISTE has docents on staff who are very helpful so don't be shy to ask for help. 

RezEd  An online hub providing practitioners using virtual worlds with access to the highest quality resources and research in the field to establish a strong network of those using virtual worlds for learning.

Second LIfe® Viewer Cheatsheet  Created by Kippie Friedkin, this useful PDF file will provide you with great keyboard shortcuts while in Second Life®. 

Discovery Educator Network (SL) Blog  A blog to keep you up-to-date on events and activities at the DEN in SL™.  They have classes almost every Wed. evening where you can learn the basics about SL™, how to infuse technology into your classroom, and many other topics. They are wonderfully helpful folks and very friendly!!  Don't be shy!!

SLED Blog  The official Second LIfe® Education blog filled with wonderful coverage of events, openings, and people in the Educational Region of Second Life®.  Browse through the archives and see the great pictures, too! 

Torley Linden  A SL resident who works for Linden Lab®.  Torley has put together his own blog, but you can also watch all of his fabulous video tutorials to become more proficient in SL™.

New Citizens Incorporated Blog  A blog for new SL Residents to access tutorials, tips, find events, and learn from experts about all things that make ones SL experience smooth and enjoyable.  

ISTE  (International Society for Technology in Education) main website.  Here you can access the latest NETS Standards and read all the wonderful things this organization is doing to increase technology knowledge and use in schools and colleges.  This is the organization that hosts the NECC Conference.
