An Introduction to Second Life® for educators.......

This is a site to help educators learn what is available to them in Second Life® (SL™), a virtual world that is growing in popularity as a place to collaborate, create professional and personal learning communities, and participate in the vast number of educational opportunities within this parallel universe.

The Main Grid of SL™ is NOT for minors.  Teens have their own Grid, but adults are not permitted there just as teens and other minors are not allowed on the Main (Adult) Grid.  There are some educators who do work with teens via the Teen Grid, but this requires special permission, and adults cannot leave the educational site to venture out into the Teen Grid.  About 30% of SL is not for the faint of heart.  There is the seamy side of Second Life® just like there is in Real LIfe.  Keep to the other 70%, and you will be amazed, delighted, and transformed.

I've named this page 'Ms. Cornwall's Page' because that is the name of my Second Life® (SL™) persona-- Emilia Cornwall -- at right, but she changes her look fairly regularly.  Every SL™resident must create an avatar and name.  This is a thoughtful process since your name cannot be changed once your account is established.   I chose Emilia Cornwall because I am an Anglophile at heart, and Emilia is a Shakespearean character's name (found in four of his plays) that I thought went well with Cornwall!

As the technology manager for the national Senior Project® Center, I hope to entice you to explore this rich medium for educational enhancement.  I will explain what is available, how to get there, and provide you with links, info, and images to help you along the way. This site will only scratch the surface of what is available to you in Second Life's Educational Region.  I hope you enjoy it and find the information intriguing enough to hop into SL™ for yourselves.
