Holiday Food Basket Project

West Park Gives Back

Holiday Food Basket Project

This November, West Park Elementary is stepping up to fight hunger in our community, partnering with the Newark Area Welfare Committee’s Holiday Food Basket Project. In 2010, the Project provided food for 1148 local residents. The Project relies heavily on donations from schools such as West Park to accomplish their important mission.

From November 1st through 30th, we ask that our Pandas bring in non-perishable food items to donate.  Collection boxes will be waiting in each classroom. PTA volunteers will keep a tally throughout the month (let us know if you’d like to help!), to be displayed in the hallway.  The class with the most items collected at the end of the month gets a classroom party in December!

Though any donations are welcome, we suggest each grade focus on one category:

K/1st: soup or broth…2nd/3rd: pasta or pasta sauce…4th/5th: vegetables or fruit

Thanks in advance for your support. What a great way to teach our kids about giving back, building communities, and showing Panda Pride!

Your Holiday Basket committee,

Katie Hughes (sara515@juno.com)

Free Tutoring Program

posted Oct 13, 2011 11:44 AM by Helen Baynum   [ updated Oct 13, 2011 11:46 AM ]

St. Paul's Tutoring  (One on One) is now being offered for free. This is an outreach program that works to provide free tutoring services to children in our area.  Volunteers work with your child's teacher to identify weak areas and plans for improvement.  While the program takes place at St. Paul's in Newark, the program itself has no religious affiliation. If you are interested, please leave a note in your child's agenda and I will send home a form.

Thank you!

Thursday evenings starting at 6:30 and the starting date is October 27th.  There is no deadline for registration.

Information sent home today...see attached
