World Regions, Cultures and Countries
Students must have a three-ring binder for this class as it is a major grade for each unit that we study. We worked together at the beginning of the year to make sure that everyone had one with three tabs -- vocabulary, section reviews/notes, and worksheets. Students are only required to keep papers in their binder for the unit that we are currently on. Pervious material can be recycled.
There is so much supplemental material that we use to help the students gain the information, that the binder is an invaluable tool in studying for tests. As we begin to move into individual regions and societies, it is beneficial for students to have colored pencils for maps but it is not required. Please be sure to ask your student if he/she has a binder. Regularly checking your student's binder for the information that I have posted on this site will be a great help to me and to your student. Thanks!
Nov. 19:
Tonight's homework is to read page 83 in the textbook and the 6 vocab words on that page to your binders. We discussed population density and looked at population density maps in class today. Please be sure you know the answer to the reading check question on page 81.
Nov. 18
Today in class the students were asked to make a list of all the products that they used or ate while getting ready for school this morning. Tonight, they are to take that list home and find out where each of those items was made. We will do something with that information tomorrow as we continue to learn about economic activity and how those activities connect us to other countries.
Nov. 17
Today's homework is easy -- watch television! Yes, I am serious! I need the students to watch television and see if they can find advertisements that fall into the four categories of economic activity that we talked about in class today. They were given a worksheet that includes columns for each of the activities. Please try to find one ad for each level of activity. We will discuss them in class tomorrow.
Nov. 12 -- I apologize for not updating this over the last couple of days but for some reason my computer was not communicating with Google very well. The students took a test on Chapter 4 today, but because of the number of absences and the crazy schedules we have had lately, I will not be checking binders until tomorrow. Students got their check lists today and should be able to score very well on this binder check. If someone is missing something, please come see me first thing tomorrow (11/13) morning.
Nov. 6 -- Because I have not been at school the last couple days, we will NOT be having the chapter test Monday. We will review chapter 4 Monday and take the test when you return to school Thursday (because Tuesday will be a short day, we will use it to get everyone caught up). By now everyone should have all the section reviews and all the vocabulary in their binders. We will take a look at the worksheets Monday.
Nov. 3 -- We covered Chapter 4 Section 3 in class today. Students now have the vocabulary words and #1-#4 of the Section 3 Review finished. Tomorrow we will complete a chart on the characteristics and examples of metallic and nonmetallic minerals.
Nov. 2 -- We finished Chapter 4 Section 2 today. Students should now have the Section Review from page 64 in their binders.
Oct. 29 -- We began working in Chapter 4 Section 2 today (p. 62). Students should add the 6 vocabulary words from this section to their binders for homework.
Oct. 28 -- We finished up Section 1 today and went over all 5 questions on the section review (p. 61). Please be sure that you have all the vocabulary words and the section review answers in your binder.
Oct. 27 -- We began work in Chapter 4. Please read Section 1 (starting on page 58) and answer question 1-4 in the Section Review on page 61.
Oct. 23 -- We finished Chapter 3 with our test today. If you were absent, please see me as soon as you return so that we can set a date for you to make up the test and so that we can work together on anything you missed. As I must turn in grades Tuesday morning, anyone missing the Chapter 3 test will be put in the computer as having an incomplete. This will allow you 10 days once you return to school to get caught up. I hope that this helps those of you who have been hit hard with the flu and that it gives you a little less to worry about as you recover. :o)
Oct. 22 -- We wrapped up our review of Chapter 3 today and will be taking our test tomorrow. Please be sure to bring your binders as we have a binder grade for this unit as usual.
Oct. 19 -- Hey gang! I am sorry that I am behind right now on my page. Between me being sick and all of my children being ill as well, it has been a crazy week and I appreciate how cooperative you have all been. As you know, we have been working in Chapter 3 -- "Wind, Climate and Natural Environment." We have now completed the vocabulary for all three sections. We have completed the Section 1 Review on page 41 and the Section 2 Review on page 50 (1-4) was assigned today. We will be wrapping up this chapter Wednesday and we will have our Chapter 3 Test Friday (we will spend Thursday reviewing). We have also completed a few worksheets that will be a part of your binder check this Friday. If you think you might be missing something, please come see me as soon as possible. Thursday will be a day to get "caught up" on anything. We will work together to make sure everyone has all they need. Thanks!
Oct. 6 -- Because of the number of students who have been absent for the tennis tournament, I have postponed the chapter 2 test until tomorrow. Study the crossword puzzle we did in class for the vocabulary section of the test. There will be a binder check with this test. Here is what should be in your binder for the check:
All 44 vocabulary words from chapter 2
Section reviews questions for all three sections in chapter 2 (#1-4 only on each)
The four worksheets (they are on 3 sheets of paper) that we have done for this chapter (Solar
System, Equinox/Solstice, Water Cycle, Landforms)
Oct. 1 -- Answer questions 1-4 in the Chapter 2 Section 3 review on page 33. We will cover all the section review questions in class tomorrow in preparation for your test Monday.
Sept. 29 -- On the blue folded paper handed out in class, select 16 different land forms from the worksheet we completed in class. Put one landform in each box and write the definition of the landform and an example of where it it can be found on Earth.
Sept. 24 -- Tonight's homework is to finish the last 7 vocabulary words from Chapter 2 Section 1. These are found on pages 21 and 22. These vocab words will be on the Chapter 2 test and will be part of the next binder check.
Sept. 23 -- Use your textbook to complete the worksheets given out in class today. These worksheets need to be placed in your binder. They will be part of the next binder check.
Sept. 17 -- We will review tomorrow for our Map Unit test next week. This will be a 2-part test with vocabulary being tested Monday and map skills Tuesday. Have a great weekend!
Sept. 14 -- We have been working on the worksheets that go with the Map Unit. Students do not need to bring their textbooks with them for the next few days as the information from this unit is all on handouts.
Sept. 8 -- The students were given a chance to fix the wrong answers on their tests. Sixth period was given the assignment to write a 1-page paper (notebook paper, handwritten is fine) about why it is important to be respectful to teachers and fellow classmates. This was assigned because the class had a hard time quieting down today.
Sept. 3 -- The test for chapter 1 is tomorrow. Study the information on the handout given in class today. The map projection worksheet is NOT on the test. Only the things listed on the Notebook check and review worksheet covered in class today.
Sept. 1 -- I told 4th period today that the test for Chapter 1 is Friday, but that is because I thought today was Wednesday! Sorry! Because of my mess up, the test for both classes will be Friday. Tomorrow will be a review
Aug. 25 -- We read through Chapter 1 Section 1 in class; homework is on page 5 -- Section 1 Review numbers 1-4
Aug. 28 -- No Homework! Have a great weekend! |
