faith statement

I believe in God with my whole heart. As a child of God, (I John 3:1) I have committed my life to Him. I depend on Him daily for the strength and wisdom to do His work. I realize that by myself I am not able to do anything. It is God who leads me each step of the way and has saved me through Jesus Christ. Therefore I try to imitate Jesus’ servanthood as I work at SCCS. I see each child as a precious child of God.  Each child has unique qualities that I try to recognize and build upon as their teacher.  I am called to help them serve Christ in each area of their life so I try to model, by way of actions and discussions, how I look for God’s leading in all areas of my life.

I believe Christian education is important because we need training to live a God centered life.  It does not come naturally with our sinful nature. There are many influences that Satan uses to fight against our efforts to serve God.  Having received a Christian education myself, I am thankful for the training that I had and I feel it is very important to continue providing this for our children.

As I approach each subject I try to show the students God’s structure and consistency.  We also look at how sin affects this subject area. For example, in math class, we learn how God has created very consistent rules concerning the way numbers interact.  We also learn how people twist and misrepresent numbers to appear a certain way to benefit themselves. I try to show them that being honest with numbers as well as knowing how to solve equations is our responsibility.

Discipline is critical for a growing environment.  I continually work at preventative measures so that redirecting efforts will be less necessary. I begin with a respect for who each child is, and I expect respect from them for each other and myself.  I model asking for forgiveness when mistakes are made and encourage them to do the same.  I also try to be well prepared and organized so that little time is left empty to be filled with inappropriate behavior.  I try to laugh as well as cry with the students to show them that I am human and not someone up on a pedestal. If corrective measures are needed I try to do so in a manner that communicates respect.  I don’t feel that sarcasm has any place in the classroom.  I also believe that communication and cooperation with parents concerning the corrective measures is very important.  I always try to keep the parents well informed of the activities in the classroom. I consider it a privilege to be a part of the staff at SCCS.  I pray that God will continue to lead me as I serve Him.
