STUDENT PORTAL:  Parents and Guardians: Students are now (as of 10/5/09) able to set up a "Student Portal" so they can have access via the Internet to their current grades in all their classes, plus other info such as unit status toward graduation, transcripts, overall grades for the year...11th and 12th grade students are offered codes this week (some of mine declined) and instructions for setting up the portal, but 9th and 10th graders must have a waiver form signed first by you. Then we can give them the codes and instructions.  Questions?  Email me, and I'll try to help. (I'm new at it too!)     Mrs. Sims

Materials students need to bring to class every day:
   1) Dividers in a 3-ring binder labeled Math Notes, Math Assignments, and Math Quizzes.   (It doesn't need to be a separate binder.)
   2) a pencil with an eraser for doing the work (please, no pen used for work)
   3) a supply of lined paper and graph paper
   4) a composition book, for notes
   5) optional, but helpful to have at home: a compass and a protractor.

Most work may be done first semester without a calculator, but for second semester, students will need to bring a scientific calculator for the trigonometry we learn.  Look for the "sin", "cos", and "tan" buttons.

Most days, we take notes in a composition book, and then the notes are followed by the day's assignment, also done in the composition book.  About once a week, we have an assessment scheduled, either a quiz or a test.  Most chapters take about 3 weeks, and will include two quizzes and one test.

Click on the link below for a list of assignments by date given (always due the next time class meets, at the start of the period).
Also I put scheduled quizzes and tests on the list, as soon as I announce them.  I'll try to stay about a week ahead on announcing assessments.

IF YOU ARE ABSENT:  Check the assignment calendar, either at front of the classroom, or online, for what you missed.  Missed assignments should be made up in a timely manner (within two or three days for most absences).  Read the lesson in the text before you try the problems and/or come in at lunch or after school for help.  Missed notes can be copied from another (trusted) student, or from me at lunch or after school.  Notes will be graded at the end of each chapter, so don't forget!
